We just had to share this awesome idea we came across from @adelines_hearts_and_crafts! What a fun and simple way to get little ones exploring outside! ✨☀️

Day 1 of the #buildingournest challenge from @wilkinsonnest and #bravegrownspaces challenge from @growingbrave arr both about Learning Spaces! . . Over the years we have "schooled" in many different places. From our schoolroom in the house to our cabin in the woods to our outdoor summer classroom. Learning has happened gathered around the kitchen table, cuddled up on the couch and sprawled out on blankets in the yard. There was even one time when I was on bed rest that my husband brought all the childrens' desks upstairs to our room so that I could teach from my bed. As I think back on all these times and places I can't help but smile had all the wonderful memories we've created no matter where we were. . . So if you're a mom who's just starting out my biggest advice to you would be to worry less about the space and more about what memories you want to create in that space. Day 2 of the #bravegrownspaces challenge from @growingbrave is all about supplies so I thought that I would share our go-to summer learning supplies! . . Learning baskets are a great way to learn on the go and this one was used for a pond study with friends! Some of our must haves are: * Animal Identification Cards * Sibley Backyard Bird Cards * Tree and Flower Identification books * Binoculars and a magnifying glass * Nature journals and a good selection of markers and pencil crayons . . Included in this basket we also have our egg carton scavenger hunt from @the.silvan.reverie and Insect identification cards and poster from @growingbrave. Also our beloved Big Book of Bugs book by @yuvalzommer. . . What are some of your must have learning supplies during the warmer months? I love being able to pick a theme, fill a basket with related books and activities and head out to a spot in nature to dive into our learning! . . I was inspired to make these colour hunt cards after seeing a book like this on my friend @adventureninjafamily stories last night. As miss 2 has been enjoying outdoor play recently, I thought we could use these to get some more vocab practice and colour recognition. This morning she took to them right away and walked around the garden looking through the cutouts. She didn't really stick to matching the colours but we had good chats about what she saw. I was carrying bub in one arm so it wasn't something I was able to capture in my stories. Mr 8 also loved having a go, and spent time outside after school finding the colour matches. These took me a solid half an hour to draw and stencil cut last night, but I can see these cards being used regularly- either outside or indoors!

Have you ever tried to make your own watercolors?⁣⁣‍‍ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ I’ve been really into the idea of making natural dyes for a while now - @rebeccadesnos had a post on this and we took the idea and ran! ⁣⁣⁣⁣ It’s SO fun and so interesting - it’s like trying to solve a puzzle - discovering which flowers give off their color the best and what colors they change into when you change their pH . ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Anyone can do it!⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ :⁣⁣⁣⁣ 1. Boiling water⁣⁣⁣⁣ 2. Flowers/berries ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 3. Lemon juice (an acid)⁣⁣⁣⁣ 4. Baking soda (a base)⁣⁣⁣⁣ 5. Cups/small bowls ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 6. Paint brushes ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ -:⁣⁣⁣⁣ 1. Put flowers/berries in individual cups/bowls ⁣⁣⁣⁣ 2. Pour a SMALL amt. of boiling water over blooms/berries (don’t use too much or the color will dilute!)⁣⁣⁣⁣ 3. Mush around with paintbrush⁣⁣⁣⁣ 4. If color is released, divide in two and add lemon to one batch and baking soda to the other and observe the change (some are duds! but some comPLETELY change color and it’s crazy cool!!)⁣⁣⁣⁣ 5. Paint!⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ BTW if you’d like to use this ’ chart I made for my kids it’s linked in my bio as a download to make it a little more of an experiment!⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Document the colors you get in the spaces that correspond with whether you added lemon or baking soda. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ :⁣⁣⁣⁣ • yellow coreopsis⁣⁣⁣⁣ • dark purple Siberian iris⁣⁣⁣⁣ • purple astilbe ⁣⁣⁣⁣ • dark red daylily ⁣⁣⁣⁣ • blue, black, and red raspberries (obvi ‍♀️)⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Do you have any of those blooming by you? ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ If not, pick a little of everything and give it all a try! It was so exciting running about grabbing different species and colors to test out. ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ to see our best shades!⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ And remember - as long as you can get red, blue-ish, and yellow-ish you can always mix for the rest! ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Also to the 3rd photo to see the fern rubbings (use any leaf!) we did with white crayon that we then used some of our colors to paint over and reveal the resist image.⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Lots that can be done! ⁣⁣⁣⁣ ⁣⁣⁣⁣ Tag me if you try so I can share you
