It’s official!!❤️ I finally got my acceptance letter by email yesterday morning! I’ll be attending my university’s 3 year BSN program this fall and I’m beyond excited!! This is actually the only nursing program I applied to because I was really determined to get into this one and I had a pretty high chance of getting accepted. Ok so let’s talk. I love social media, it’s amazing and you meet amazing people. What I don’t like are the expectation. The unrealistic expectations. I try to be as real and raw as possible because I know how it feels to compare yourself to other people. I always feel like I’m not doing enough. Like I’m not enough. I let how other people treat me or what I see from other people dictate how I view myself as a person. And it’s so so wrong and so detrimental to our own self worth and sanity. I constantly have to remind myself that I’m doing enough. I work full time, masters program full time, and I live my life by trying to make other people happy, my career is even focused on caring for others. But it’s so easy to lose sight of it all when comparing to others or how other people treat you. But I promise you that everyone’s life on here is not what it seems. All these other nurses don’t have it all together as much as they portray. In example, me. I am a mess, I can’t turn in my school work on time, I don’t work out, I sleep in till 2 everyday, and I may eat a little too many tacos and drink a bit to much tequila. But that’s just me. I love to have fun, and live my life by what makes me happy. I mean well, and I’m happy with myself. And as long as you all are happy with yourselves than that’s all that matters. But pls for the love of god do not compare yourself to “influencers”. It’s all one big pretty show that is not realistic in most cases. “I’d rather call out”⠀ ⠀ Have you ever thought this the day/night before your next shift?⠀ ⠀ I know you have, because you’ve told me. ⠀ I know you have, because I LOVE being a nurse and I have to.⠀ ⠀ When you’re feeling this way have you ever noticed that you go into your shift and it’s particularly terrible?⠀ ⠀ I have.⠀ After a HORRIFIC shift that I walked into with a bad attitude (doesn’t happen often, but I am still a human) I decided things needed to change. I NEEDED to make a change.⠀ ⠀ So I flipped the script. I learned methods to get my mindset from “I have to go to work” to “I get to take care of others” and holy cow, walking into my shift from a place of gratitude sincerely changed my outcomes.⠀ ⠀ I still have hard shifts but they come at me in such a different way than they used to when my mindset was in the gutter. ⠀ ⠀ Some tips for shifting mindset:⠀ ⠀ 1. Journal about ⠀ - gratitudes ⠀ - things you are doing well⠀ - the things you are working on⠀ As it pertains to work! Do something that you LOVE before you head in. Drink a cup of your fav coffee, read a book, go for a walk!
