This album takes me back to fond memories.⁣ Version 2.0 is the second studio album by American alternative rock band Garbage. It was released on May 11, 1998 by Mushroom Records worldwide except North America, where it was released a day later by Almo Sounds. The album was recorded primarily at Smart Studios from March 1997 to February 1998. Despite a slow start, Version 2.0 went on to equal its predecessor, earning platinum certifications in many territories. By 2008, it had sold 1.7 million copies in the United States. Garbage embarked on an 18-month-long world tour, and released a string of commercially successful singles backed with innovative music videos.⁣ With the album, Garbage aimed to improve and expand on the style of their 1995 self-titled debut rather than reinvent their sound. Lead singer Shirley Manson wrote dark, introspective lyrics, which she felt complemented the songs' melodies. Version 2.0 received generally positive reviews from music critics, and was included by several publications in their year-end lists of 1998's best albums. In 1999, Version 2.0 was nominated for Grammy Awards for Album of the Year and Best Rock Album. Another Dewaudio Starmap conversion rapidly nearing completion. The difference the Starmap makes is very difficult to put into words, and before I wax on lyrically, suffice to say that it just makes an LP12 sing much more naturally. The ease of setup with improved accessibility to the balancing springs is a great bonus and shortens the time required to do this. Also, because of the perfectly flat top plate, suspension screws point straight down and don’t require time consuming manipulation, and the actual balancing process is quick and the suspension doesn’t “drift” as with the standard curved Linn top plate. Low output moving coil (Ortofon MC Quintet Red) will be transferred from customer’s existing Axis, as well as the thicker 5mm Achromat version (one shown is 3mm). The Axis is a great little turntable and served this customer well, but the LP12 is far more authoritative, dynamic and sounds more natural.
