I’ve got a video to show those who have had or going to have axillary clearances, sentinel node biopsies, mastectomies, and/or tissue/flap reconstruction surgeries. Even after going to the gym a fair bit before and after surgery I still felt restricted in my range of motion and flexibility in my arms and shoulders, and the tightness across my armpits into my chest/pecs was always pulling and often searing with pain if I went too far. I mentioned it to the team @cancerfitaustralia and they started me on shoulder mobility exercises and encouraged me to do it every day, with a broomstick. (I didn’t, because, well, life, kids, etc.) When I first started doing these mobility exercises and stretches, I could barely get my arms past 180 degrees (or straight up over my head and slightly past). It just wouldn’t go any further and it hurt. BUT after 7 weeks of loosening up my shoulders before a workout, about 2 times/ week, I could suddenly do almost 360 degrees! I had regained a range of motion and mobility that I was starting to think I would never get back again. I was surprised and amazed, I was cheering, I was high fiving, I was dancing.
