How I wish I was back on this rooftop basking in the sun with my belly out!! People always ask me how I became confident enough to wear a bikini in public. Well, I’m too proud for my own good and had my first surgery at the start of Australian summer, so my forced recovery period was great for spending a bit of time at the beach and testing out my new bag which meant no more running to the toilet at the beach. And I also needed to prove to myself, more than anyone else, that having a stoma wasn’t a negative that needed to be hidden and ashamed of. However, I still do have my moments where wearing a one-piece is not a fashion but a comfort choice. Days where I want to be out and about, but keep my stoma and scars to myself. And I think that that is my normal. You might never want to show your belly, you might always want to...it’s about accepting your “normal” on any specific day, and accepting that it might be different from the day before!! It’s been quite a week in my #ibd life. Monday-scope, Tuesday-cry a lot about the results Thursday-analrectal manometry testing. I’ve had way too many objects up my behind this week. But the last picture and all of you, give me hope. A little over a month ago that pretty plant you see in the red mug was just a sweet potato . With the right conditions, growth is always possible. Each day the ring around my stoma scar fades a little more and more and I’m slowly starting to have days where I feel completely normal. • Sometimes I forget that my body attacked itself and my colon tried its very best to kill me and essentially made two years of my life a living hell. • It isn’t easy to forget the past. Sometimes you don’t want to, and sometimes no matter how hard you try to forget you can’t. • I don’t want to forget my journey. Was it fun? No. Did I think I’d never get to the end? Yep. Do I want to do it over again? Not in a million years. But I’m proud of where I’ve come and I’m proud of where I’ve been. I’ll keep telling my story because it isn’t over. There are people out there whose stories are just beginning and they need to see that there’s life after this and that there’s light at the end of some really long, ugly tunnels. • Lately, I’ve been forgetting I’m not “normal.” I can go for hours doing “normal” things and not even think about my jpouch. And that’s pretty amazing. And you know what, that’s me living life. And that’s me being happy and being proud. • Don’t ever give up friends. We must continue to fight and tell our stories. • • •

Another day, another pouchoscopy. This brings an end to the clinical trial I’ve taken part of over the last 35 weeks and I should be finding out what the next steps are over the next couple of weeks!
