We are at our annual NIH trip in Maryland and to be honest, it’s been difficult to get excited like we used to. This probably sounds bad since (WTH we are at the NIH where the best Doctors and researchers are) but it just seemed like we haven’t learning anything new year after year. Well today we found out there are some new medical tests that we will start. And although results could take a year, we find ourselves so excited again. For now...watching Layla go from appointment to appointment with such joy and happiness continues to give us perspective. I am so grateful for all the hero’s here who work so hard to make this a positive experience for these children. And to my little angel, you are a miracle. • I've been going through a horrific herx at the moment that is challenging me on absolutely every level - physically, mentally, emotionally & spiritually. I was finding it hard to keep the hope alive and find gratitude in my daily life whilst battling a list of exhausting symptoms. But it made me really focus on that there's always something to notice. There is always something working in our lives. You'll have bad times but it'll always wake you up to the good stuff you weren't paying attention to. Even when I'm suffering with physical limitations, I can still find gratitude for whatever is working in my body right now, all the parts that are continuing to function. My lungs allowing me to breath, my heart continuing to beat or grateful for whatever mobility I have that day. Find gratitude for the senses that allow us to connect with and enjoy the world. Our family and friends, the people who brighten our life. Who continue to console us, support us, bring us laughter, conversation & connection and enrich our life with love and kindness. Grateful for a safe home, my own bedroom, my own bed. A fridge full of food. Hot water to have detox baths. Netflix & podcasts. Wifi. The daily comforts that we often take for granted. We can find gratitude for the pain and loss that we've experienced, the challenges that have been our best teachers. We can view our struggles as gifts that have taught us lessons & deepened our compassion, wisdom, empathy, resilence and understanding. So to that one person reading this today, I know how exhausted you are, I know how tiring this battle is, but take a minute to really focus in on listing three positive things, no matter how small (seriously, some days mine is as simple as 'my fluffy, cozy dressing gown!) & remember your inner light, bravery & strength is immeasurable. #hope #lymediseasebattle #chronicillness #thestruggleisreal #gratitude #grateful #keepfighting #prayingforhealing #betterdaysahead

Happy Thanksgiving!! So I've been absent from the running scene and this square world since the NYC marathon for a couple of reasons. The hip/groin injury was screaming loud and clear after (and during) the marathon and finally felt better last Friday so I went for a short run and it went back to screaming. I was unable to race the turkey trot this morning but I got to cheer on my sister and she got 3rd in her AG!! Another thing I have been dealing with is shingles. Symptoms showed up 2 days before the marathon but I didn't know what it was until the Wed after the marathon. I've been trying to rest and relax and just take it easy. I'm praying for healing. “Joy Comes in the Morning,” 6” x 6” oil on wood panel with 1-5/8” deep sides. I didn’t get a chance to post my #100daysofencouragement project painting yesterday. Sorry about that! But it is a tribute to @lanamanis — Lana considers herself a self-taught and ever-learning artist who paints with acrylics and watercolors. And (because she can) she also carves her own printing blocks, makes soldered-charm and wire-wrapped bead necklaces, does fiber art with felted wool and embroidery, repurposes old books, and makes wreaths and “love tokens.” Her works have been featured in folk art, craft, book art, and holiday project publications. And though she may be (and should be) proud of these accomplishments, her greatest achievement is the way that she has loved and supported her family — especially her precious toddler granddaughter, Jolee, who has been battling cancer so valiantly. Lana offers us the great gift of raising awareness of the challenges facing families with sick children. She is a prayer warrior, a believer in good, and an optimist-activist. And for all the pouring out that she does, I think it’s a good day to offer some love and support and prayers back in her direction. Will you join me?
