yesterday was a special day! my best friend who I have the honor of calling my fiancé , @samidwabe , graduated from one of the top medical schools. To see all of your hard work, passion, dedication, and resilience over the years come together on this day has been one of the highlights of the year. Over the last four years of long distance, we have been unable to attend one another’s white coat ceremonies, match days, and my graduation, so being able to be at your graduation yesterday was extra special! Why are you sabotaging yourself though • Superman would never bring kryptonite to his house...so whyyyy do you have Haagen Daaz in your freezer, Mr Smith you swear you’ll only eat one occasional scoop. LOL... • And by “you” I also mean “I” and “we”. Cuz I’m currently in the middle of a chocolate binge thanks to someone NOT ME (*husband* ) going to Costco and buying a bunch of delicious junk. If it wasn’t in my pantry guess what...I wouldn’t be on this downward spiral right now . • • Every time I review diet with patients, I ask what their one weakness is. Potato chips, ice cream, candy. Then I ask...”ok who’s bringing it into your house?” ....*crickets*. • • My point is: don’t play yourself. Fill your fridge and pantry with the good stuff. Find a healthier substitution for your weakness. And for God’s sake leave it out of your grocery cart !! Make treats an occasional indulgence, and force yourself to leave home to get them. • • Ok I told you mine, so tell me....what’s YOUR kryptonite ? ⠀⠀

Since my last post on physician salaries seemed to be an important one I thought I would share this data from Merritt Hawkins. Take a look at the discrepancy between generated revenue and average salary for primary care doctors vs specialists. As I mentioned before PCP’s now and in the next 10 years will be at a massive shortage. Demand is going to continue to go up and the paradigm shift in medicine is going to be towards better primary care. This tells me that hospitals are going to really value PCP’s and that these numbers will need to change to meet demand and properly incentivize physicians. . . “Employed primary care physicians may be more likely to direct tests, therapies and other services ‘in-house’ to their hospital or hospital system employer, rather than to outside resources such as radiology groups or labs, which may have been their pattern when they were in independent practice,” the report stated. . . “They also may direct more hospital admissions to the hospital or system that employs them than they might if in independent practice and hence generate more revenue for their affiliated hospitals. Though this behavior pattern was not apparent in the 2016 survey, it may be one reason for the high revenue figures generated by primary care physicians in the 2019 survey.” . . Unfortunately medicine is more and more becoming a business and these numbers don’t lie.
