And meeting her after so long was like going back to my childhood. I remembered what I was like. I remembered what she was like. It was like reading a letter that I had buried a long ago. I looked in her eyes and I saw all those moments. How our days used to be impossible without each other. We kissed and we laughed. Driving each other crazy at times. I often used to make her cry and then I had to spend hours trying to undo what I did. I looked at her and I saw what I was like. I looked at her and I saw what she was like. Oh how naive we used to be. Yet, there was a certain innocence in that naivety that I know I would miss for the rest of my life. And here I was, looking at her. The letter was now out in the open. I hadn't forgotten her. Yet, it had taken a lot of effort to not think about her. And after a lot of time and a lot of effort, it had started to become natural. I always believed that everyone is made of different parts, all the parts are not given to a person when life is given to him. Some parts are to be discovered along the way. When life gave me you, it wasn't just like meeting another person. It was like accepting a part of you that you were missing. So when you left, I couldn't just throw you away from inside me. The only thing I could do was bury you, and in order to do that, I had to bury a lot of me too. And yet you are here. And here am I, staring at the grave of us inside me. Two people that used to be but never exist anymore. And the strange thing is, the love is never lost. I look at you and I know that I love you. I love you the same as I loved you back then. Yet, everything is very different. Time takes away a lot. Time gives new life and time takes away the old one. If we were just souls, we probably would have ran across each other in this moment and kissed and laughed and cried and loved all over again. It would have been as if the time that has passed, the years, the months, the days; all were just a few minutes of a little fight we had. The bad part was all over. The night was young again... KARMA OF AN ANT: One day, during the time of the Buddha, Mahakasyapa (the highest in wisdom among Arhats) was standing beside Anathapindika (the most famous benefactor of the Order) in the Jeta grove. They were overseeing the ground- breaking for the Jetavana Monastery. Suddenly, a hint of sadness crossed Mahakasyapa's face. Anathapindika asked him what had happened. Pointing to a black ant scrambling amidst the rubble, Mahakasyapa recalled that for untold eons past, during the times of six transhistorical Buddhas, that ant had remained an ant. Even now, under Buddha Sakyamuni, the seventh Buddha, when Mahakasyapa himself had become an Arhat, the poor ant, after eons of rebirth, was still just an ant, condemned to scavenge for scraps of food, condemned to the sufferings of an insect's life -- as devoid as ever of wisdom! "It is only thanks to my spiritual penetration that I know this," explained Mahakasyapa. On hearing this, Anathapindika was deeply moved and could not but shed a tear of sadness. (Source: ymba.org)
