Sometimes life’s not what you expect it to be. If you would have asked me a couple years ago where I would be right now.. I would have told you I’d still be living in Florida, working as a labor and delivery nurse, possibly married to the man I dated in college. But here I am now, living in Nashville, working as a med surg / stroke nurse, creating videos and music, a year post brain surgery. Definitely not what I would have expected... . . But that’s the beautiful thing about life. Often we don’t expect the things that actually happen, and we expect things to happen that actually don’t. But I wouldn’t change a second of it. Of course I’ve made a lot of mistakes, done things I’ve regretted, but I’ve learned from all of them. I’ve invested in relationships with people who I thought really cared about me only to be left feeling used and alone. And people have come into my life who I never thought I’d be friends with, and they’ve wound up some of my best friends. . . Life RARELY goes how we expect it to.. but that’s part of the reason we need faith. Because we don’t always know what the future holds, but we know Who holds our future and if we know He’s working all things together for our good, and we believe that he can use ANYTHING that we go through, then we don’t have to get upset or angry when things don’t go our way. Because His ways and His plans are much better than our own

All the time people ask me things like, “Is nursing fun?!” And “Are you living your dream?” And “Do you just love nursing?” Here’s the hard truth. Nursing is difficult. Nursing is messy. Nursing is humbling. Those closest to me know that I have days when I cry a lot over the things I see and do. Nursing is not always fun, nursing is not easy, I don’t always “love” what I’m doing. But it is worth it. Because even on my lowest days when I make a million mistakes and do things I never thought I would have to do....... I know that I’m doing work that’s worthwhile. I know that I’m making a difference. I know that I’m in a profession that directly impacts people’s lives. So is nursing always fun? No. Is it worth it? 100%. . . I think we all underestimate the power of positivity. Yes it can be cliché, and maybe even sometimes fake. It’s ok to be real, it’s ok to not feel ok, it’s ok to be broken and sad at times. But at the end of the day, you have to decide who you want to be and the life you want to live. Do you let the weight of the world get you down? Or do you want to be the kind of person that when the going gets tough, you push forward, knowing God has purpose in those times? . . There are days at the hospital that honestly all I want to do is cry. And sometimes I get home from work, and that’s what I do. But does it keep me from going back the next day? No. Because I know that whether I have a good day or a bad day, there is purpose in that day. There is purpose in what I go through, in the things I experience - whether bad or good. I don’t always see the glass as half full, I don’t always want to put a smile on my face. But I’ve found that no matter my circumstances, God has given me a million+ things to be grateful for. And when I have a hard time seeing those things in the moment, sometimes I have to take a step back and remember all that He’s given me, all that He’s brought me through. . . From brain surgery to heart break to saying goodbye to people and places.. God’s been by my side the whole time and there’s never been a season of my life that has lacked purpose in one form or another. So idk about you, but I’m going to choose to smile. I’m going to choose to see the good in this day, knowing God has a purpose and a thing or 2 to teach me today. Just a thought for the day.
