Brand new linen sketches coming this week!!! • When I started doing these sketches a couple of years ago, they started life as loose composition ideas for larger, more detailed paintings. I never dreamt they would be quite so popular... • Before the oil sketches, my ideas were drawn out in chalk and charcoal on a grey or beige pastel paper. I chose the linen canvas for the oil sketch transition as it gave me a similar neutral surface to the one I was used to. I loved how it seemed to instantly make the oils pop from the canvas with minimum amounts of paint... • “It Was Always You” oil on linen @wishbonepublishing

The bigger the CHALLENGE, the bigger the REWARD. ❣️ looking back on where I started 12 years ago painting I can see how far I’ve come. ❣️ when I first started I was so intimidated, comparing myself to others more talented who had already been painting for years when I just started. ❣️ I didn’t know if I could stick it out. I didn’t know how hard or how long the climb would be. ❣️ So I had to take it 1 DAY at a time, doing my best- trusting that the results would eventually come. ❣️ The reward of making paintings that I feel so proud of - like this one- that come with ease- feels oh so worth that uphill climb! ❣️ And now, I’m ready to embark on some more difficult challenges ahead. I know the same process will work. ❣️ it’s only a matter of time and effort. Keep the faith! ❣️ Have you ever had this experience in something else prior to painting? How did you succeed? I’ve been working on this little moon painting where I wanted to try it from a black and white underpainting. I don’t feel fully resolved with the painting yet, but you can see the first three layers in these pictures.
