I can’t say that all of #Everest is the most beautiful place in the world- the sad reality is that with all the people- the need for resources to climb and combined with an extreme environment- it leads us to a topic we all want to ignore- the trash issue. Some of the trash quite honestly can be avoided if we all pack it in and pack it out- while other trash is becoming a fixture on the land due to circumstance. Here is the highest camp in the world- Camp 3 at 8300m/27,000’ on the North side. Example- you climb to the summit and climb back down. The body is taxed and in some cases out of oxygen- you have to leave this camp immediately for your own safety- It’s hard enough to just pack your own bag and walk at this height the descend- nothing good can come from staying here. Then let’s say a massive wind storm comes up - the energy it takes to pick up additional trash or even your own belongings becomes nearly impossible. “Leave no trace” in my opinion is a very important principle- but when conditions and desires are clouded at this elevation- the only thing the human body can do is want to get down and get away, in some cases, leaving things behind- and these items are seen here and they get scattered by the wind and tough conditions. -FLACONE PER IL DETERSIVO IN CARTA Si tratta di un detersivo confezionato in bottiglie composte da un involucro esterno realizzato al 100% con carta riciclata proveniente per il 70% dal recupero di cartoni e per il 30% da giornali quotidiani. Per permetterne l’impermeabilità, il flacone in carta è rivestito all’interno da una sottile pellicola in materiale plastico separabile dal flacone ed anch’essa riciclabile negli specifici contenitori per la raccolta della plastica. L'azienda afferma che la bottiglia è realizzata in modo da smontarsi facilmente per favorire il riciclaggio e che per separare i due componenti sia sufficiente aprire l'involucro esterno in carta premendo con i pollici sulla cucitura laterale. La scelta di usare la carta per le confezioni del nuovo prodotto ha permesso di ridurre del 66% l’utilizzo di plastica. To promote water-resistance, the paper bottle is coated on the inside with a thin plastic film separable from the bottle and also recyclable in the specific plastic collection containers. The company states that the bottle is made in such a way as to be easily disassembled to facilitate recycling and that to separate the two components it is sufficient to open the outer paper envelope by pressing on the side seam with the thumbs. Whilst most people this week have been congratulating themselves for beating their personal best for the #hackneyhalf I am feeling pretty pleased with beating my own waste goals! This is the first time in 2019 I’ve had to take out the rubbish so that’s 4.5 months worth of household waste in one bin bag! This excludes food waste ie peelings which get separated for composting by Hackney Council, recycling (paper, tin and glass. Any recyclable plastics I previously would have added I’m currently hoarding for my own @everydayplastic experiment! There’s not much thankfully!) and my big #zerowastefail , seven @bambonatureuk disposables get binned each week - I’m not perfect ‍♀️ hopefully ‘night pants’ will soon be a thing of the past. I’ve also done a big clear out of weird things I was hoarding like old plastic toothbrushes plus the kids toothpaste tubes which I took to @bulkmarketuk to terracycle. So still some swaps and changes to be made but thanks to all to you bulk stores out there making it easier and easier to avoid all the #pointlessplastic ✌
