A great achievement for our school being up against the best schools in Dubai for sport. Our secondary student Ross MacDonald has won UAE Athlete of the year for athletics. Ross won a Gold medal for 200m and 400m at the DASSA Championships and holds the Dubai Schools record for U16 400m. Also a big well done to all of our Primary athletes that represented The English College at the DAPSA Athletics Championships. A special mention goes to Tyger DeGoede who won a Silver medal in the Under 10 boys Javelin and our super speedy Jack Tulley who won the Gold medal in the Under 8 boys 300 meters. Important values to teach our children that we all know but don’t always get the oopurtunity to : •Be thankful •Help others •Be kind •Give others( and don’t always expect something in return) •Appreciate what you have (especially the little things) •Be good (for a better you not to be praised) Taym’s school came up with a great initiative which is providing labour workers with boxes that include daily hygiene essentials. We went together to the supermarket and got the list needed. He took it to school the second day and filled up the box with his peers. Two groups of extremely talented Mathematicians from Year 7 took part in the Dubai Maths Super League at Jebel Ali School. The eight students were outstanding in every way; behaviour, manners, enthusiasm and ability. Beginning the day with a Kahoot, both teams gained maximum points and achieved podium positions. The rest of the morning was spent answering questions in a treasure hunt, solving cross numbers, constructing towers (from spaghetti and marshmallows) and racing in the ultimate Maths Relay race. Our teams were amazing and finished 4th and 8th out of 32! Over 100 of our students were taken to a ‘very important date’ on-board the historic QE2 to watch Alice, an adaptation of the Lewis Carroll favourite. The students had a great time looking around the ship, having snacks in the Grand Lounge as well as enjoying the live production. Our exam students even got to go backstage and work behind the scenes. Year 10 students have completed their first ever live performance as part of GCSE Drama. The students had to collaborate and create an original and innovative piece of theatre in the style of Bertolt Brecht, an influential theatre practitioner who believed the theatre should be a place to learn lessons and change society for the better. The Secondary students, staff and parents enjoyed the International Day. There were stalls from different countries. Students' bands played music and international music was played too. The teachers challenged the Year 13 students in a football game. The game finished 0-0 largely due to the Man of the Match performance by Chris Lewis in goal for the students. However, the game was decided by penalties where the teachers won 3-2. The radio station Dubai 92 FM's morning presenters Roger and Layla were present, they went around and picked three winning stands and they were (in no order, just all winners) Japan, Palestine and Russia.
