Day 227 - home! I’m out. Officially after 227 days in hospital I am free! 7 and a half months later. Man, this has been the hardest time I have ever had and probably will ever experience. This injury literally MAKES or BREAKS you. And I am determined that it will MAKE ME! We hear about these stories on the news and in the paper but we never believe it will happen to us. This is the biggest heartbreak ever. Losing my legs, my independence and what felt like my life, but my life doesn’t stop here. This isn’t the end, maybe it’s only the beginning and I am so scared but so excited to see where life takes me. Don’t ever take life for granted, appreciate everything. Every time you wake up and stand up out of bed, every time you run down the stairs and put your shoes on, every time you hold a pen and write and every time you put on your clothes. These are things we never think we can lose so we never pay attention to them but they are the things I miss. So here’s to my next stage of recovery. Thank you to everyone who has helped me get this far ✨

5th July, Its exactly two years to the date since I injured my spine. A date that changed my life forever. It’s so strange to think that exactly this day 2 years ago I was fighting for my life in intensive care, being rushed into surgery, surrounded by flushed medical staff, sticking multiple needles in me, taking my blood, trying to clear my airways, doing everything they could do to stop my body convulsing. The pain I felt that day is something I will never forget, I can still feel it as I type this. . But two years on and I’ve built myself a life I didn’t think was possible on that night 2 years ago. I’m surrounded by the most amazing friends, I’m working in my dream career, I fall a little bit more in love with myself everyday and I get to share it all with you guys (the most supportive friends ever). So today we’re celebrating life in all its beauty & tragedy. We’re embracing ever fucking thing that we’re experiencing and we’re doing it like queens. Knees are weird! • • Episode 3 of #CandysRecovery: Electric Stimulation! • • I use @premfit stim to strengthen my muscles. 10 minutes with these are like 3 sets of squats for my quads! It also helps me avoid as much muscle atrophy as possible until my muscles are working fully on their own. I use these stim pads on my glutes, hamstrings, quads, and calves.
