1️⃣ Trigger Point “Butt Scoop” - scoop trigger point ball into the dimple on the side of your. Relax over the ball. It WONT feel good. Marinate for 1-3mins.
2️⃣ Fig 4 Band Distraction - Lots of tension on the band. RELAX to feel this one. Should get a stretch on the back/outside of hip/Glute. .
3️⃣ Modified Pigeon Stretch - sweep knee under belly button. Sit back into hip at an angle. Push down through knee. Relax. Repeat. .

Your Levator Scapulae is a muscle that lays just underneath your Upper Traps in the corner where your neck meets your shoulder
.
This muscle is a very busy little thing. It initiates and assists in a lot of your neck movements such as:
Lateral Flexion (cute little head tilt)
Extension
Same side Rotation of the head and neck
(and most importantly, the movement behind the name…)
Scapula Elevation
.
The most common dysfunction to Lev Scap is postural stress and/or activity overload stresses. This can be things like holding the phone between your shoulder and ear can be a real killer for this bad boy.
People will often complain of having a stiff neck, especially when rotating their head
The production of trigger points in this muscle are very common and can be easily treated with anything from hands on manipulation to dry needling to myofascial release!
.
The fun thing (well, what I find fun about it anyway ) is the structure of this muscle. Around the mid belly of it, the fibres actually TWIST! This is what helps with its ability to rotate the head and neck! ☺️
.
One great self-stretch to do for this is to “sniff ya pit”!
Sit up nice and straight and actually SIT ON the hand of the side your stretching
Slowly look across to the OPPOSITE side
Once mid-way, tilt your head down and bring your nose to your arm pit
.
You can also stick a or a ⚾️ ball in there and do some self-release work too!
place the ball on the medial corner of your Scap (where the distal attachment is)
you can then hold is Static or move around!

Tension headaches can be caused by tight muscles at the base of your skull. Sometimes this will start as stiffness in these muscles and then slowly crawl to the rest of the muscles of your head. Prolonged sitting postures with the head pushed forward and stress play a big part in this. It’s important to understand where these headaches may be originating from and to avoid prolonged static postures and to keep the neck in a good position. Here is how you can help address this using a lacrosse ball and a self release!

1️⃣ Get a lacrosse ball, tennis ball, or water bottle and place it right where your skull meets your neck. Find the stiff tender points in those suboccipital muscles and retract the chin and push into them. You can look up and down and side to side as well while holding this pressure. Perform for 30-60 seconds.
.
2️⃣ Reach over to the opposite side with your arm and hook right under your skull where you feel the tender muscle. Push in and hold and now pull your head down and away. Do this 5-10 times.

What is a free gingival graft or FGG? And no, it’s not free . This is an autogenous (from the patient) soft tissue graft often taken from the palate and then positioned either around a tooth or an implant to increase the amount of keratinized tissue. .
A great body of literature has shown that at least 2 mm of keratinized tissue is necessary for gingival health and absence of inflammation around teeth and implants.

The first 2 days, the graft survives by plasmatic circulation and attachment by a fibrin network. 2-4 days, there is a vascular invasion from the recipient area and the attachment of the graft is complete at around 7-10 days. ‼️If you decide to do this procedure just know that 1 week post-op will look really bad, so don’t panic, just sit back and relax, I promise it will look much better after a month. ‼️ courtesy and clinical work of talented @drbhideperio .

I recently started working with a soccer player who after our assessment, one of our significant findings was very limited rotational capacities. His initial complaint was very stiff hips and some closing angle joint pain.

As a coach who has been transitioning over to the manual side of things, it is always an intriguing challenge to alternate between wearing the hats of strength coach and manual practitioner (really the same hat).

Afference is the pen that draws a cortical representation of a joint based on the individual inputs we’ve given it. When a movement is called upon that requires a piece of that template, or perhaps several templates corresponding to that joint, the afference (or memory of afference inputs) allows for better representation of that joint and thus leads to clearer and more sophisticated motor output.

Watching my bros and sister swim today as I’m a little out of action! I fell at cheer on Thursday night, went to the hospital but thankfully no broken bones! I have soft tissue damage and it is actually really painful! The hospital gave me exercises to help the healing process which I need to do 3 times per day for 21 days!

I’m a little disappointed as I can’t go into the gym this weekend to practice my tumble but I need to recover so ♀️!

Neck discomfort? Tension headaches around your eye? It could be your SCM muscle! Here is an easy way to release this muscle to help with these issues. It’s important to understand that tension in any muscle won’t be permanently resolved with soft tissue work, but rather only by addressing the root of the issue such as breathing dysfunction or improper movement patterns.

1️⃣ Find the base of the muscle by turning your head all the way one direction and feeling the opposite side (to find the right SCM, turn your head all the way to the left). Place your thumb there and relax and go back to neutral. Now, apply downward pressure and turn the head away and back. Perform 5-10 reps.
