After a long walk yesterday evening which lasted 1.5hrs I decided to drop by the local record shop, they were kind enough to allow me 15mins for a quick buy (I arrived at closing time 8pm) and sure enough as luck would have it, I managed to find a copy of ‘Aja’ (pronounced as Asia) by Steely Dan which I’ve been searching since I’ve returned in this trip. A really nice US press rather than a local Japan press, which I think it’s the first press from 1977. Post 143: This weekend I joined the NY Audiophile Society in visiting Larry Borden at his New Jersey audio shop, Distinctive Stereo. Distinctive's many brands include German Physiks, ISO Acoustics, Chord Electronics, Wells Audio, Aurender, VPI, Merrill Audio, Muradio, Ortofon, and Spendor. # # While at the meeting, I was ran into a number of folks whom I needed to speak with. One is Ralph Glasgal. Look for me to head to Ralph’s place soon for another listen to his Ambiophonics 3D stereo imaging technology. I also saw my friend who attempted to get the free $75,000 Pipedream speakers (see prior posts!). The next Pipedream post is coming! # # Shown here are shots I took during the meeting of one of German Physiks new Emperor preamplifiers ($19,750 UAD). As per GP, it is designed to match the Emperor Extreme stereo and Emperor Extreme mono power amplifiers or a large variety of amps from other manufacturers. The company states that the volume control uses a relay-switched resistor network design, allowing precise volume and channel balance. This is also said to give the volume control stage a constant input and output impedance. The Emperor’s incoming mains power is not routed through the power switch. Instead, this switch supplies power to the standby circuit and when the power button is pressed, this activates a high-current relay which connects the mains source to the unit’s power supply. The Emperor has 3 balanced and 3 unbalanced inputs per channel. Aiwa HS-J2 Cassetteboy (1982-3?!). . I've been looking for an Aiwa Cassetteboy for quite a long time, always wanted one since watching the movie Iron Eagle. Even though it's not the exact model from the movie (HS-F2), I couldn't be happier. . Bought this for extremely cheap from someone local....what are the odds?!?! Anyway, it needs a little love and elbow grease. The tape mechanism doesn't work quite well, barely spins....more than likely need to replace the belts.
