Prírodna kozmetika sa teší čoraz väčšej obľube a my sme tomu radi. Uvedomujeme si však, že prírodne zdroje nie sú neobmedzené. Svoj smutný príbeh má aj brazílsky strom, z ktorého sa získava esenciálny olej ružové drevo. Pre veľký dopyt v nábytkárstve sa tento strom dostal na zoznam ohrozených druhov. Preto olej nezískavame z jeho dreva, aby nedochádzalo k výrubu stromov, ale destiláciou z listov stromov pestovaných v udržateľnom hospodárstve. Takýto olej je veľmi vzácny a je cenený pre svoje blahodárne regeneračné a antibakteriálne vlastnosti. Práve kvôli nim sme ho primiešali do krému Trojruža, v ktorom sa výborne dopĺňa s esenciálnym olejom zo sladkého pomaranča, kadidlom a voňatkou zázvorovou. I read an interesting post on @permanentstylelondon this morning on ‘authenticity’, as one of a number of words used in marketing these days. I like to think that #authentic is indeed a word that’s communicated in what I do though of course that’s for each individual to judge based on their own meaning of the word. It’s hard to sum up but this project with @dodgson_wood feels particularly authentic to me. What does that mean to me? Clearly Maria Benjamin and James Rebanks of @herdyshepherd1 have a passion and proactive commitment to their farms, animals and land that is based on genuine, practical, wholistic and creative principles. That is something I respect and admire. It’s wonderful to work with wool that is so easy to connect with. Everything is relative when you talk ‘local’ but in a global wool industry Cumbrian wool, spun in Devon, woven in Moray and finished in the Borders is a transparent supply chain that supports and connects individuals and communities across the UK. There’s a small cot in the corner of the new boiler room at the Kukshyn school, with what looked like a Ukrainian Sci-Fi novel resting atop the folded woolen blanket. The furnace keeper got up from the cot when we were invited in for a quick tour. Someone keeps this furnace running 24-7 and it’s now able to use biomass briquettes, compressed from detritus and invasive reeds from the surrounding peatlands, for fuel.
