You never know what a flea market has for you. Sometimes you find something that totally doesn’t belong there. Like this JVC CQ-F2K hi-fi cassette player in a mint physical condition, together with the AM/FM radio cassette and the case. This player can play metal tapes and has support for Dolby B / ANRS. The build quality is just incredible. My unit needs belt replacement, and I hope that would be all. This means there will be photos of its internals ... when I’m mentally prepared to take it apart. Check out the quick demonstration of the player working, and the cassette backlighting. A couple of notes: after shooting the video I realized that the choice of music might not be the best for the demo (though I love it!), since the music itself has a flutter effect to it. The player produces a decent sound with no noticeable flutter. I don’t have a professional test tape, but the one I recorded and measured myself gives me a reading of ~0.8% (combined with the distortions introduced at recording time), so the actual value is even lesser than that. Also, I recorded this at night at low overall volume, and didn’t add any rubber feet to the player, so you can hear all the device/motor noise. Adding rubber feet solves the noise issue. This player definitely deserves some quality housing!
