Life gets crazy in my household. As many of you know, I’m now on my own, tending to two homes, 3 cats and a hyperactive child along with the help of my husband. All that, while juggling work. I took a few days off this week (blame it on mercury retrograde) to reflect on my life. . Often, I found the most challenging task wasn’t the physical work but it was how do you parent a child? It’s still a fairly new experience to me. 4 years ago, I would think that looking after babies was overwhelming since they can’t verbalise what they want. Then at the start of #terribletwos and #threenager phases, you discover this might be the toughest journey yet. How do you tell a child (an insistent one), “No.” without actually saying it. Once she turned 3, I constantly felt I was parenting the incorrect way, which usually ends up with plenty of emotions from both sides. . So lately, I have been adopting a different approach. I reflected on how I was treated during my childhood — we were caned if we faulted on something since there were 3 of us, haha. Barely any sanity left for my mum to handle. And whether I might have taken the same parenting approach unconsciously. Not that I caned her a lot. I could only count twice. However, my childhood and how I was treated, might surely influence how I was going to parent. I’m not sure how scolding a child can help after repeated times. . I reflected and decided that I should be approaching parenting based on how I approach my own life — by living a calm and slow life. One that focuses on the #present, being #conscious of ourselves, meanwhile, caring for our #wellbeing. Most importantly, one that is #stressfree. . #Calmparenting. I don’t think it’s a new term. To follow through though takes a beautiful mind, an incredibly peaceful and positive mind. CONTINUE HERE
