A great achievement for our school being up against the best schools in Dubai for sport. Our secondary student Ross MacDonald has won UAE Athlete of the year for athletics. Ross won a Gold medal for 200m and 400m at the DASSA Championships and holds the Dubai Schools record for U16 400m. Also a big well done to all of our Primary athletes that represented The English College at the DAPSA Athletics Championships. A special mention goes to Tyger DeGoede who won a Silver medal in the Under 10 boys Javelin and our super speedy Jack Tulley who won the Gold medal in the Under 8 boys 300 meters. Two groups of extremely talented Mathematicians from Year 7 took part in the Dubai Maths Super League at Jebel Ali School. The eight students were outstanding in every way; behaviour, manners, enthusiasm and ability. Beginning the day with a Kahoot, both teams gained maximum points and achieved podium positions. The rest of the morning was spent answering questions in a treasure hunt, solving cross numbers, constructing towers (from spaghetti and marshmallows) and racing in the ultimate Maths Relay race. Our teams were amazing and finished 4th and 8th out of 32! Camps International spoke to our Year 7, 8 and 9 students this morning to launch the 8 day expedition community project trip to Kenya that will take place in January 2020. The Year 13's had their Prom at the Palace Downtown. The students and staff enjoyed a very glamorous evening, with speeches, awards, video presentations, good food and good music. There was a buzz of excitement as students arrived to take photos, with some hiring luxury limousines for their journey. Prom is an important rite of passage for graduating students and we were delighted to celebrate the end of the students' school experience in such a beautiful environment. Primary students, staff and parents celebrated International Day. The students came to school in their countries' national dress or colours of the flag. Celebrations started with a parade, followed by individual class performances from around the world. Our Indian parents and children entertained us with a wonderful traditional dance routine. Parents arranged their countries stalls with classic dishes and memorabilia. The students sampled foods from across the world and were encouraged to try new tastes by getting a stamp in their International Food Passport for each country they visited. Fun activity stations were arranged by Year 6. Students could also participate in jewelry making, henna and face painting.
