This season on Hoarders.... jk! This is a part of my current rattan/wicker collection. I have loved this type of furniture from as far back as I can remember. One of the first things I purchased for my first apartment was a wood storage unit with wicker drawers, close to 6 years ago before I was into Pinterest and Instagram. This is one of my favourite things to hunt for when I am thrifting. I wanted to round up my best tips for thrifting to hopefully help you land the items you’re looking for! 1. Go often. this is my number one tip. The stock in thrift stores changes daily, and sometimes hourly. The things that you would want aren’t sitting on the shelves for months, they are scooped up quickly (by people like me ). One day you can go in and leave with nothing, and the next day (likely thanks to just one donation) it’s possible for the store to be filled with all of the treasures you’ve been wanting to find! 2. Find your favs. Once you start working thrifting into your routine (stopping after groceries or errands), you quickly start to identify your favourite stores. I have a favourite local store for furniture and a favourite for clothing. I continue to return to these stores because it becomes evident I have similar taste to those who are donating. 3.Dig. Things are often buried or tucked away. Some thrift stores like value village and savers are large and it can feel super overwhelming. Go through one section at a time. Which brings me to my next tip... 4.Go with a reasonable amount of time because thrifting does require you to search and can be time consuming. The treasures aren’t always in plain sight. 5.Donate! Keep the cycle alive by donating your gently used, loved items so others can find them and enjoy them too! I took a hiatus from Goodwill for almost 2 months (more like a month and a half, but I like to round up)! I sourced less, cleaned up my death pile, dug through my storage and own closet. When I did source, I went to the bins or buy sell trade stores. Overall, it felt good to slow down my sourcing. I needed to calm my sense of FOMO.
