Animal sorting-do they live on land or water?! I set up this activity mainly for Theo because he’s getting more interested in sorting activities. But he ignored it completely until the end when he came to play with the water and washing the sand off the animals. Arlo on the other hand had a ball with the sorting! I had water in one side of the Flisat table and sand and grass in the other side. I put an assortment of land and sea animals in a crate on the floor for the boys to sort. Unintentionally making this an active play experience as they had to bend down and grab an animal then place it in the correct tub. I read about active play on Zara’s post and stories yesterday and it made total sense to me, I often unintentionally make our play active because the boys are busy little beings that love to move! Shape Matching Activity I am still working on downsizing our recycled materials storage bin. Today, I chose toilet paper rolls and a cardboard box to create this shape recognition activity. I originally made shape stamps with the toilet paper rolls but L was not really interested in painting this morning. So I additionally cut out matching shapes from the cardboard box and set it up on our multipurpose table instead of the painting station. Paddle pop stick puzzles! While cleaning out my craft cupboards this morning I found these puzzles that I had made for Lawrence over a year a go. He quickly took them over to the table and made quick work of putting them together. I clearly need to make some trickier ones for him. To make them I printed off some basic pictures and glued them onto some jumbo pop sticks, that I had placed up against each other. COLOR SORT STICKY WALL • I originally wanted this to be a color match only activity for my 18 mo and my 20 mo niece, but had some shape foam pieces from our previous sticky wall activity so we color sorted the shapes! •••••••••••• They did a great job sorting by color (the shape sorting was just an added bonus) Tape your Contact paper to the wall with painters tape, with the sticky side out. Then draw your outlines (just draw circles if you are not sorting shape pieces ⭕️) in different colors with a marker. •••••••••••• Set out foam pieces, blocks or other small colorful objects for your little ones to color match by pressing them on to the sticky wall! #craftycardboard announcing the grand opening of “Z & T’s Park n’ Wash Garage” . . . holy guacamole this was quite the DIY! I spent wayyy to much time on it and had wayyy to much fun It started out as just a parking garage with a ramp and escalated really quickly to a car wash, maintenance center, exit tunnel, and even a gas station!! At 17 months, M is in an absolutely beautiful stage where she loves practical life activities. Sometimes it just takes a tiny adjustment to give your child a chance to take part in daily tasks. Pouring milk into a small pitcher instead of directly into her cereal gives her a chance to help make her breakfast. A water station accessible to her means she can get herself a drink when she is thirsty, without having to ask an adult for help. A small sink gives her a chance to clean her own dishes (and gives her big brother a chance to lend a helping hand.) These three videos encompass so much of what I love about Montessori at home. This is a little girl learning that she is a capable and valuable member of our family. Isn’t it beautiful?

It’s Dental Health month, and I’ve managed to get all 5 of my kiddos into the dentist this month. It’s exhausting!! - Do you take all your kiddos at once, or spread it out and take them one at a time? - I’m happy to have it done ✅, and it’s a great time to start talking about and playing dental health. - The Letter tooth Sensory bin taught my 3-year-old her first 10 letters last year.
