Well, that was a massive amount of work. Everything is printed, bound, hole punched, laminated, and assembled (including 7 lapbooks). Day 16: Plan... pt. 2 ✔️ Our plan for this year!?....Well! . . We are finishing up Build Your Library’s Level 0-Around the World! It has been a wonderful journey and we are so excited to continue with Build Your Library level 1 (The Ancient World) next year 2020! . . . Until then! We are going to go through Torchlight’s pre-k (Curiosity & Character) and the K program (Worldly Wisdom). I’ll be beefing this up for Bentley as needed, I just couldn’t resist Torchlight’s levels so we’re going to try them this year. Next year I may combine Torchlight’s Level one with Build Your Library ‍♀️ we shall see! . . After that we are doing Shark and Ocean unit studies for the month of August! Just in time for shark week!! . . September-November is all about pre-history! I’m super pumped about this and I will start lesson planning for this stuff within the next month or two. I know for sure our base will be Build Your Library’s prehistory unit, but I’ll be adding in a whole bunch of extras and extensions. . . Science this year is all Nature Study! We will be using Nature, Food, and Farm Anatomy diving deep into Nature exploration, cooking and gardening! . There is a wonderful resource near us called Free Forest School. I believe they are organized all over the US! Look it up for your young ones! We are excited to start that next week . . We will also be starting the Sitting Together curriculum some time this year! Probably in June or July! More on this later . . Phew! That’s a lot! Planing is one of my favorite parts, even though I know 6 months from now plans could just fly out the window or I’ll have to adjust and cater to each kid. Either way!

There are so many wonderful books in this curriculum, and I’ll be flipping through them all with you! If you aren’t familiar with Torchlight it is a literature based secular curriculum. It is diverse, inclusive, and modern. Pre-k level is called Curiosity and Character, and is all about building emotional intelligence in our littles. This is my favorite level yet! That’s a wrap on first grade! We had a really great year covering prehistory, ancient history, geology, astronomy, and human anatomy, and I saw this kid grow by leaps and bounds. A few of our favorites from first grade for anyone interested: 1) Build Your Library’s Prehistory unit was a fabulous lead in to our year and we still look back on the activities as some of our favorites from the year. 2) Curiosity Chronicles for ancient history was an unexpected hit, we loved it and we both learned so much. 3) Beast Academy helped make math Nick’s favorite subject (narrowly winning out over science). 4) We loved all the books from Torchlight and Build Your Library, and the yearlong Book of Myths project from TL, where Nick wrote his own myths and created his own mythical creatures, will be my favorite keepsake from the year. We didn’t have the lapbook component of @curiositychroniclescurriculum when we were going through ancient history. But now that we have it, we are using it as an opportunity to review all we learned throughout this past year.⁣ ⁣ They are in love with lapbooking and I’ll be honest, I have no clue how much time has passed by ... but the results are worth it. This is only the first layer guys... I’ll continue to share as we continue to add on the different components.⁣ We are fully delving into this style this year and have lapbooks for science as well!
