@kotn has given me the chance to explore my passion for integrating social impact into fashion. This B-corp certified company makes 'quality essentials' made from 100% Egyptian cotton with a focus on traceability and ethical production. Unfortunately, since 2001, there has been a 95% decline in demand from big corporations that opted to go with cheaper options. By working directly with cotton farming families in Egypt, Kotn aims to rebuild the industry from the inside and donates a portion of their sales toward building schools to combat illiteracy in Egypt. Kotn makes their own fabrics from raw cotton grown in the Nile Delta, where the cotton is then sent to our cut-and-sew factory outside Alexandria. Over the past few months we’ve been working on turning the waste in our supply chain into a resource, so that there is no waste. This amazing plant takes the organic cotton floor waste, basically the offcuts when you make a tee and then adds rainwater, solar power and a sun-drying shed (no chemicals, just some clever machinery) and makes beautiful card and paper. They print our designs with Soy.
