I am smiling in this picture but the reality is that I actually cried a lot today! I’ve been handling all of this with a lot of courage, strength, and grace. The majority of my days, I’m happy, positive, and energetic. I meditate and do yoga. I am reassured by when I go out and people tell me that they would never guess that I’m “sick” or on chemo because I look like I am “thriving” or that I “look like a model” and my “style looks like a statement.” I honestly look and feel healthy and strong physically, mentally, and emotionally. But I also have to remember that it’s okay to have days where I am sad, overwhelmed, frustrated, and well to be honest angry! That was me today. My bone marrow is really struggling with my 2nd round of chemo. My platelets dropped to 16, my hemoglobin dropped to 6.7, my White Blood cells to 2, and my neutrophils to only 0.5 (all considered to be critically low). I had to receive 2 units of Red Blood Cells and then 1 unit of platelets. I had a reaction after receiving platelets where I broke out in hives and had chills where my whole body was shaking and I couldn’t get warm. My next four weeks of chemotherapy has to be re-evaluated and my treatment plan needs to be adjusted since I’m not tolerating my current regimen. I’m frustrated because I’m walking a fine line, trying to a balance between holistic health and western medicine. I would prefer more natural options but then I also have to consider the fact that I have an aggressive form of cancer. It’s overwhelming to make decisions that involve poisoning my body in order to kill the cancer. I’m sad that I can’t do all the things I love. I’m angry that I can’t work right now. I’m angry that I am going into debt because of medical bills and living off my credit card. I’m mad that my treatment plan keeps getting extended. I know that this is all temporary and I will get through everything. But damn I’m ready to be done! And today I’m reminding myself that It’s ok for me to be sad, frustrated, overwhelmed, angry, and mad! And I wanted to remind all of you as well that It’s okay to be sad, frustrated, overwhelmed, and angry. Acknowledge that shit, let it out, process it, and then let it go!
