IT’S GRAD SEASON

This badass babe just graduated from University of Michigan with her Masters in Public Health. She will be kicking ass at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit and I couldn’t be more proud of her. You are a force to be reckoned with my dear. She is too humble to brag, so I will do it for her. Congrats seester, I love you forever.

After a wonderful weekend spent with some fantastic fellow artists, I am proud to announce that this coming fall, I will officially be attending the University of Michigan for a BFA in Musical Theatre. This is an honor beyond words and a dream come true. Ten years ago this month, I was 21, a senior at the University of Michigan, not fully grasping what was about to ensue when when Matt and Nick Lang asked if I'd play Albus Dumbledore in a Harry Potter musical they'd spent months writing. They were (are) two of the funniest people I'd ever met. Matt envisioned Dumbledore like "Old Prospector” in this version, and later I suggested that Dumby wear flip flips to make himself appear more relatable and cooler to the students--he loved them deeply after all.⁣ ⁣ Little did I know that that decision would alter the course of my life in ways I could have never imagined. The show was packed every night with students. People sat on top of each other. We stayed up to the early hours of the morning performing. I heard uproarious laughter from the little backstage hallway of the school's new blackbox theatre. It was a cathartic, electric experience that I would cherish forever, the end of my time in college. That would be that, and it would be a sweet send off into "the real world." ⁣ ⁣ A lot has happened since then. A favorite writer of mine talks about the "conspiracy of yes"--how so many things have to align in order for real wonder to occur. I'm so glad Matt and Nick taped the show that weekend, I'm so glad YouTube was in its infancy that summer (it was about to turn 4, so if we turn 10 this week that means YouTube basically just got bar mitzvah'd), I'm so glad the "release" (for our families and friends) happened to coincide with the release of one of the new Harry Potter films, I'm so glad the talents of a group I always admired were undeniable and raw and rooted in love. ⁣ ⁣ StarKid is my artistic home. The gifts that you, our fan community, continue to bestow, all these years later, are deep, and I hold them in my heart. The stories are too numerous to mention here. I wouldn't change it for the world. This summer is going to be an anniversary celebration for the ages. Come join us for a one-night-only show July 25th in Los Angeles at @theatre_acedtla.
