The first parade I ever stood on as a member of 3 Para. The CO addressed the battalion as “Men of the ever glorious, fighting 3rd Battalion The Parachute Regiment” and then went into his talk ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• I have never forgotten that opening and am immensely proud to have stood amongst such illustrious company. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• Members of my family have worn and still wear the Maroon Beret, and the green Drop Zone flash. One has paid the ultimate price whilst with the Battalion, and I have lost good friends from 3 Para. So I am intrinsically linked to the Battalion ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• These men from 4 Plt B Coy 3 Para are currently deployed in Afghanistan. They have decided to raise some money during #movember to promote men’s health and suicide awareness. let’s stand with them and give them some support. 20th Jan 1991: 28 years ago tonight, we stood poised to cross the border into Iraq. It would become the longest cross border operation since WW2, we would spend 42 days behind enemy lines. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• For me it was the 1st time I would see active service with the SAS. My baptism of fire was but a short few days away. It is a strange feeling to plan to destroy the enemy, it is a sobering feeling to realise that ultimately they have the same plan for you. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••. The reality of combat is that a level of the surreal kicks in, your first contact is a supercharged affair, your mortality is not really realised at that moment, only later, you just do what you have to do......flat pack the enemy, take their name before they take yours it would become a mantra. ••••••••••••••••••••••••••••• "History does not entrust freedom to the weak or the timid" I am privileged to have fought alongside men who are neither weak or timid......
