I haven't walked barefoot in 6 years!!!! No brace, no compression stocking and no more damn orthopedic shoes. This is almost too good to be true for the first day. This is a new journey I'm embarking on. The device around my leg is called a walkaide. It's an electric device that sends signals through my spine to my brain and back down to make the nerves and muscles work in my ankle that haven't been used in a year. Using this device will be really helpful in gaining muscle where they haven't been fired in a while properly. Some may think that it's a "setback" looking at how I walk with it at the moment. This device isn't something you put on and walk perfectly fine. There's a lot of fine tuning that needs to be done that measures your steps and knows when to send signals. This will REPLACE my brace once I'm done training with it and I'll be able to walk BAREFOOT finally. Y'all have no idea how fucking shitty it is to put on your shoes to walk everywhere you go because one of your ankles done work properly. So next summer I'll be struttin on the beach barefoot finally.. I'll also be shredded and not a scrawny kid . There will be an 8-10 week period with a session or two a week, then I take it home for two weeks and finally have a final test with it to "complete" my training. Walked 300m with it today and went up and down ramps/stairs. Apparently we accomplished more in one session than others do in 3-4 so things are looking good. Can't wait to see where this takes me. Yesterday... For the first time since that day two years ago, thanks to this little crazy device on my leg, I got on a treadmill && (if you listen carefully towards the end) my physical therapist said we gotta get me RUNNING. I'm far from that but that was the first time any one ever even gave me the hope of running again. I've been told a few times over again that I'd never run. But I was also told I may not walk either or go back to beauty school and so far my record is on my side. I used to be very active, in high school playing sports. I do miss being able to easily run somewhere. Kinda funny, I used to think when I was fully capable, how I could probably go the rest of my life without running. *rolling my eyes* But truth is, as much as everyone hates it, it's the one thing still giving me that push because I love to prove people wrong. Still two years later and every day I'm still getting stronger. Every time I wear this it basically shocks my leg when my knee goes over my toes so it AIDS my muscles in lifting my foot up and out so I don't get tripped up from not being able to lift my toe enough off the ground and away from my heel of my right foot on my own. Technology is an AMAZING thing. Let me tell ya. This #walkaide is only approved for certain diagnosis' and of course I'm a perfect fit. I couldn't be more grateful for this thing to come into my life at this point in my recovery. Because everyone knows that 2 year mark, it's supposed to be over. You get what you got.. But with this it's not over just yet. Thank you Mom, @robingabriella, for doing everything always to make sure I have what I need. Without you this wouldn't be possible.
