I have no previous experience with horses but I have been reading a lot of yogic stories of how animals are able to sense our energy and respond to it. Yesterday I met with @simonleeyoga by a paddock to say goodbye before we part ways. These horses approached us cautiously. With one in particular it was like meeting an old friend. She licked my hands, nibbled my pockets and nestled her head into my body. I fed her and to do that I basically had to put my hand into her mouth. Knowing full well she could probably bite it off, my practice was to drop all fear and trust. By this point we had established full trust. We spend 30 minutes together and when I tried to go she followed me. Then I touched her and told her that I had to go. She bowed her head and turned away... This was a profound meeting for me. These animals have a soul. It is only when we are able to drop all of our conditioning and be fully present with another being that we can truly meet on that level. It’s true with humans but with animals there is a simplicity that allows us to open and just connect beyond words. Teachers come in all forms, sometimes horses. Stay open to a the messages. In the Bhagavad Gita, Arjuna is a warrior about to go into battle against his family and friends and he says, I don’t want to fight! And Krishna (God) who happens to be driving his chariot says “.. you’re a warrior Arjuna, so your Dharma is to fight. You must do what you must do with no attachment to the results...” More or less... So now I find myself in the predicament of being a yoga teacher in 2019 running teacher trainings and I say, I don’t want to post on Instagram... And Krishna says, “your a Yoga Teacher Nik, it is your dharma to post on Instagram if you want to run teacher trainings.” I’m like, what? Hold up Sri Krishna... It’s the law of evolution and the law of karma in action and technology is a part of that. We live in different Yuga to Arjuna but our predicament is the same. There is a sect of tantra called Aghora, the Aghori practices the left handed path of tantra and uses everything as a gateway to the divine, even those which hold the most attachment... meditating on death with burning bodies, intoxicants, sex and magic. Social media is left handed tantra. Those sweet dopamine hits are feeding the lower chakras and without consciousness will certainly create more layers of identity around the pure Soul. It is feeding the seed of desire for fame which has been impossible to attain for the masses until this moment in history. This can be a block if our goal is get Prana into the heart which begins to dissolve the sense of separate self. But social media can be used to create mass change. So here I am (for now) in the name of Dharma, on the battle field about to kill my friends and family, meditating on death, posting a picture of my decaying body, doing my best to practice renunciation to the likes, comments and shares. It’s taken me a while to truly trust and listen to my heart. . . I was so easily ruled and manipulated by my head, by my so called rationale mind. I kept doing what I thought I should because it was safe, expected, the ‘right’ way. . I now realise my mind was clouded by illusion, by darkness, by societal ‘norms’, of what could or should happen. . Living from the heart means connecting to what truly matters to you. What makes your heart and soul sing. . Living with passion means letting go of fear and taking the leap, trusting that the universe has your back. . . This year has proven to me that when you live from a place of passion and abundance, anything is possible. . .
