[ϟϟ]☠️- Colorized photo of Kurt Meyer or «Panzermeyer» in Normandy 1944, before Operation Overlord. Meyer was born in 1910 in the German Empire in Jerxheim. Hes father was a miner and fought in ww1 as a Officer before getting wounded. Meyer became apart of the Police in the Weimar Republic before joining the Hitlerjugend at 15 and became a full member in 1930 and the SS in 1931. He was stationed in the LSSAH Division, and took part of the Annexation of Austria and Czechoslovakia. •••• And took part in the Invasion of Poland in France where he was given the Iron Cross. He fought in Greece and Operation Barbarossa in Army Group South. Where was also awarded the Gold German Cross. He became an SS-Brigadeführer, and was responsible of several massacres on the Eastern Front against Jews and Civilians. •••• This all led up to him becoming commander of the Panzer SS-Hitlerjugend Division, on the Western Front in Normandy. His Division lost 80% of it’s power in Operation Overlord, and he became responsible for a massacre against Canadian POWs in France. Meyer became captured in 1944, in France. He was sentenced to Death, but got life in prison. Doctrine Shift - Introduction (Part.1) ––– It is widely known that the aircraft carrier Taihō represented a major change in Japanese carrier design, but what is vastly forgotten is the doctrine that dictated this shift. The Taihō (and to a lesser extent the Shinano) was the representative of this brand new doctrine. What is particularly interesting here is that if it wasn't for the Taihō, this change would have been entirely unnoticed. - For most of the inter-war period, the IJN stuck to certain tactical concepts and remained strongly attached to them. Unlike it is commonly thought, war plans against the USN were very defensive in nature with a strong "wait-and-react" strategy. The IJN, hampered by international treaties and Japan's own industrial power, was at the disadvantage. In fact, the Japanese knew they'd have to wage war against four naval countries at once (namely France, the Netherlands, the United Kingdom and the United States) to achieve their goals. The IJN simply lacked the power to take them all head-on and Japanese strategists never had the pretension of doing so, hence the defensive nature of Japanese battle plans. But war in Europe and Japan's desertion of naval treaties changed things entirely. Less than a year before the beginning of the hostilities in the Pacific, the IJN started to think more offensively. With the defeat of France and the Netherlands, the United Kingdom focusing on Germany and the USN's dwindling numerical superiority, Japan started to gain confidence in its own naval power. - Realising the strengths of their carrier fleet, the Japanese started to think differently on how to use it. At this point, the doctrine shift began. The principles that would have forged the IJN for the next decade emerged and, had it not been for WW2, would have survived. The outbreak of the war some mere months later never allowed us to even see the results of this new doctrine, apart from Taihō, as wartime experience and needs washed off these new tactical thinkings. So that will be the focus of this new miniseries as I'll try to show you what the IJN intended to become had it not gone to war. #pacificstormserie

Like the T-34/85 outside, the museum claims this tank saw action under the SS-Division Hohenstaufen and took part in the fighting in Berlin.
