I’m not interested in owning movement, trademarking methods, or having people following “my way.” There is so much more to be gained when we take information and build upon it together. I might know some stuff, you also know stuff, and when we put our knowledge together, it makes even better stuff

This is what I call “open-source yoga” and its also how progress and innovation has always been for humanity. One person can’t possibly have all the answers, we need each other to help ideas expand and come alive.

In the Modern Yogi teacher training, we take building block movements (or movement abc’s) and once we understand the building blocks, then we can apply them in so many different ways. It’s not that complex, it’s simply functional anatomy and yet is missing in so many teacher trainings.

These different movements for the shoulders are a beautiful example of the movement building blocks expanded into creative ideas through this open-source learning. Each of our amazing graduates came up with their own additions and each version can be adapted to individual needs.

I’ve been travelling and teaching for 9 months and people keep asking me what kind of travel yoga mat I use. My answer? None. I’ve loved not having a yoga mat with me (especially as I’ve only been travelling with a carryon suitcase!) and have not missed using a mat whatsoever.
_
My bare feet and hands work great on the floor, and if it feels a little slippery in a down dog or something, I welcome the instability to challenge my nervous system. Or I use a wall to brace myself instead of sliding. If I need support for my knees, blankets or pillows work great.
_
Utilizing the environment around you for movement inspiration allows more creativity in how and when we move. If we wait until we have an hour to unroll the yoga mat or go to a class, we might not end up moving in those healthy little bits throughout the day.
_
Let’s continue to let go of the stories what yoga should look like and allow it to be a practice that reflects who you are... in all the ways. This lovely sequence gets all the good thoracic twistiness combined with some lunge love and shoulder mobility that you can do at a counter or anywhere else.

We’re on our way to #HappyHips (anyone else feeling sore already?!) and now we focus our attention on rotating hips inward. Day 3 of #StrongFlexyYogi is DRILLS for INTERNAL HIP ROTATION. ⠀

Skandasana Dips - The Side lunge a lot of us love to hate... now in a hands-free version with an added internal rotation of the bent knee (use those hands for support if needed )!
Prone Hip Internal Rotation Drill - With hips on the ground & knees touching, let feet fall to the sides and lower them as close to the ground as possible. My biggest issue here was keeping shins at a 90 degree angle as feet lower... this drill is no joke!

I’ve lost track of how many planes, trains, buses and ferries we’ve taken in these 8 months of travel and teaching. But one thing that I love about it all are the creative ways I’ve learned to move using the environment around me and how little I actually need a yoga mat.

My son’s suitcase with the 4 wheels makes for a great prop. Love how the wheels create a nice fluid movement in the different stretches.

Remember, yoga can be done anywhere and in many ways. We don’t need a fancy studio or expensive yoga clothes. Just little bits of movement more often

Speaking of movement, I’m heading back to Canada, wrapping up my Move With Love teaching tour. Such a gift and adventure this has all been and I’m looking forward to the next one at home on Vancouver Island ✨ .

Yesterday I was announced that I won the #inversions4alofus challenge i couldn’t believe it ! Winning my very first challenge made me quite proud I’m so grateful to have started yoga a few months ago i have evolved a lot and so many beautiful things are emerging
