Musical Blends! To play, write ending blends on paper plates and beginning blends on index cards. Put the paper plates in a circle and give each student an index card. Turn on the music and have student walk around the circle of plates. When the music turns off student put their index card down on the plate in front of them. If it makes a real word they stay in the game. If it makes a silly word they are out! Last one standing wins! #handsonlearning #activelearning

Animal sorting-do they live on land or water?! I set up this activity mainly for Theo because he’s getting more interested in sorting activities. But he ignored it completely until the end when he came to play with the water and washing the sand off the animals. Arlo on the other hand had a ball with the sorting! I had water in one side of the Flisat table and sand and grass in the other side. I put an assortment of land and sea animals in a crate on the floor for the boys to sort. Unintentionally making this an active play experience as they had to bend down and grab an animal then place it in the correct tub. I read about active play on Zara’s post and stories yesterday and it made total sense to me, I often unintentionally make our play active because the boys are busy little beings that love to move! Friday! Here's a quick sibling dot sticker balloon activity from this morning! Swipe to see how it evolved. Back story: My son has been obsessed with balloons and asking us to draw a million of them per day! And my daughter usually wants me to set up the same activity for her, otherwise she I will get jealous of her little brother. So I set up a quick dot sticker activity for both of them with these goals: 25mo - Color matching and fine motor skills - color names written in Chinese for character exposure. I wrote them in traditional Chinese since I want my kids to be exposed to both SC and TC. I showed him how to do a couple, and then he got annoyed at me for trying to help him lol. So he did most of it independently! To encourage independence, I cut the page of dot stickers into strips by color and peeled off the outer edge. When he had the whole sheet of stickers, I noticed he was struggling a bit to peel off the stickers, so this helped a lot. 5yo - My daughter asked me how to spell "Friday", so I made the stickers have the letters. She knows how to read this in Chinese, so we focused on the English word. For Chinese, we have used the outside of the sticker peel as a template and she practiced writing color names (videos are from earlier this week). This then it could also be used as a coloring sheet! I set these up in a few minutes when the kids were busy playing in a sensory bin, and both kids were happy to do the “same” things together!
