Reducing Waste | DAY 11 (late post) #marchmeetthemaker I've made it my mission over the past few years to reduce my waste at home, work + on my travels. Here are a few changes I've made in and out of the studio: - Switched from carving polystyrene blocks to making paper frames for my 3d animal sculptures. - I use FSC certified @gfsmithpapers. GF Smith have also created #extractpapers - made from recycled coffee cups which would have otherwise gone to landfill - I wrap up my sculptures in bubblewrap and plastic sheets so they stay waterproof for delivery. All of the packaging is kept and reused. - I recycle all of my tiny offcuts and am very mindful of making the most out of every sheet. #SilhouetteStudio has a very clever trick called 'Nesting' where the software will arrange all of the shapes that are set to be cut out in the most efficient way to save paper! - When I'm out of the studio I'm always carrying a @keepcup, @chillysbottles, tote bag, container for takeaway lunches and mini cutlery. It took a while to get into that habit but it comes naturally now! . >> One solution I'm still looking for is an alternative to foam board. If anyone has found anything which is compostable or at least recycled I'd love to know about it! << . At home we've made many changes like shopping local and package free (where possible), making our own cleaning products, meals from scratch and sometimes snacks, we have a jar for a landfill bin (much to Mikes annoyance) so I can see exactly what ends up in there and what we can do to reduce it. . I've been really inspired by these influential business and organisations in Bristol doing great things to pave the way for a greener city - @citytosea_ @wrigglebristol @freshrange @suncraftbristol @zerogreenbristol @scrapstorebrist @betterfoodco @bristolwastecompany . Attending @mcs_uk beach cleans, talks on the environment and also becoming a #plasticfreecommunities leader at @surfersagainstsewage has helped me to learn more about the situation we're currently in, with the hope that I can use my creative skills to help generate awareness and change within my local community and around the world ✂️

Good morning everyone! Happy Friday - give yourselves a pat on the back... we made it to the weekend . Today I’m up bright and early, I’ve got such a busy day ahead! Yesterday I talked about all the positive feedback we have received so far in relation to the emergency cord campaign, and it was just a few hours later that I was actually contacted by BBC LOOK NORTH. My video was broadcast on the 6.30pm news last night and today I’ve been invited down to the studio to chat about all the positive feedback we have received! I’m super excited/nervous for today and I need to get my head in gear and try to look somewhat presentable . I’m off to get changed, decide which heels to wear and what on earth im going to do with my hair‍♀️. On that note - someone once asked me ‘why do you wear heels if you can’t even walk?!’ ... which in hindsight is a pretty good question - but I aaaaain’t about to let these wheels stop me from looking glam ‍♀️!!
