Mama love . I caught this special moment of Becs giving Ettie her first expressed breast milk bottle a few days ago and what a lovely moment to witness mama feeding her daughter. I felt so bad that I was doing all the nursing and I wanted Becs to feel more involved, so we made the decision to start expressing my breast milk so Becs can do a feed or two in the evenings or early mornings. I am so glad we made this decision early on as Ettie is loving both boobie and bottle and is building such special bonds with both her mummies. We are using the @medela_uk breastfeeding bottles which mimics the same suction mechanism as it would on the boob. Ettie seems to have taken them with ease so far and I am expressing off my let down milk with the @haakaauk silicone pump which is a bloody marvellous gadget! You literally put the suction part over your breast you’re not feeding from and leave it to do it’s magic! I get so many ‘are you still breastfeeding’, I honestly think people think that Everly is older than she actually is. She’s still only 10 months and yes I am still breastfeeding. I am so glad that those first time nerves have passed when feeding in public. This photo was taken at the weekend when we went to @paultonspark for Peppa Pig World. Mark took Vienna on a ride and I found a nice quiet spot to feed Everly. Feeding Everly for this long will always be something that I am super proud of . This weekend I am away for 3 days, the longest I’ve been away from the girls since I’ve had them! I just found this photo and it made me all weepy (& not just because of the poor picture quality).... so much nourishment! . After giving birth, when you first start to breastfeed...the oxytocin that is released helps your uterus contract back to its normal size. Which is incredible and efficient (and my wardrobe appreciates it)! I'm constantly in awe of the female body. But it also means, especially in the beginning, that breastfeeding hurts like a BITCH. I barely remember the contraction pains while feeding with my first... they were notably brutal with my second. By the time my third came, every single feed was excruciating. It felt like I was in labor again! Each time he was hungry at first, I would cry. Knowing I needed to feed my baby but knowing it would be so immensely painful. Obviously we got through it. A few weeks of uterus shenanigans, a few weeks of trying to figure out our latch & flow & we were balancing salads bowls in no time! Breastfeeding can be such a frustrating, painful and difficult journey for SO MANY reasons. None of which reflect on your capabilities as a mom. Ever. When baby sleeps you should bake! Or was it sleep? I'm pretty sure it's bake and drink coffee. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Cold rainy Wednesday and Baby G decided to take a little nap so I'm trying to perfect these Milk Monster Cookies, aka lactation cookies to help all the mamas out there with little Milk Monsters! Don't worry there made with simple ingredients and even if you kids steal them, which they will, they'll be fine. So simple I make a batch for me with brewer's yeast and a batch for the family without it. Although brewer's yeast does have other benefits besides helping for lactation so you might want to add it anyways and if you don't have it or want to add it they're still made with lots of other foods that help boost milk supply like oats and flaxseed. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ The recipe itself will be gluten free and dairy free friendly and there will be a nut free option. ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ Of course I ran out of chocolate so I had to improvise my testing with M&Ms (which are not dairy free obviously) since there has been a bag laying around.
