As any mama who has had to pump knows, pumping is a labor of love. And it is labor. If a mama was paid a minimum wage rate for the same number of hours I’ve spent pumping, washing pump parts, resolving clogged ducts and thrush, and researching lactation and pumping, she’d make at least around $35k+ (and that’s not including any other baby care — just breastfeeding!). So looking at it that way, breastfeeding cost a minimum of $35k on time alone.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ Then there were the actual costs of multiple lactation visits when we were still trying to make nursing work, a hospital-grade pump rental (for all 14 months), pumping bras, bottles, various flanges, replacement pump parts, lactation supplements, and assorted accessories to make pump life easier.⁣⁣ ⁣⁣ So breast milk may not be “free.” But breast milk is priceless. This liquid gold is a perfect concoction made by my body specifically for my baby and her needs. It’s protected her from illness now, and she will experience a number of health benefits for her lifetime. @legendairymilk asking the true questions here! I want to say to you new pumping moms or pumping moms who still pump in the middle of the night: you're not alone. I will never ever never forever (lol) never forget how tiring and draining the MOTN pumps were. I personally think that that is one of the main factor that makes exclusively pumping soooooo dreadful. It will get easier goddesses. It's still hard (and I pump 3 times a day) but it will get easier. Typically the first 3 months are the worst. Okay now that I got that out, I got 2 questions for ya if you feel like commenting: 1. Are you pumping right now as we speak? 2. What do you usually do when you pump? ... I'm not pumping right now (although my time is coming in 30 minutes yay ) and when I pump I'm usually playing with my LO or on my phone.

Don't get me wrong - breast milk is important, and sticking to your pumping schedule is important. But YOU are more important. If you are losing your mind from waking up to pump (or whatever is making life really hard), it's okay to cut back and supplement if necessary. When mom isn't happy, no one is happy, so make sure to take care of yourself so you can take care of everyone else. April 21st to April 27th is Infertility awareness week. You ladies dealing with infertility are so damn strong. It brings me to tears when I think about everything you have dealt with or are currently going through. I'll admit, I do not know too much about infertility but I'm not going to keep myself uneducated on the matter. ♡ 1 in 8 couples are affected by infertility. It is common. You're not alone. ♡ Infertility is NOT an inconvenience; it is a disease of the reproductive system that impairs the body's ability to perform the basic function of reproduction. (Also it annoys the hell out of me when people tell couples struggling that they just need to "relax" and "try harder") ♡ infertility affects both men and women equally. . AINT NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT ‍♀️

HERE WE ARE | It’s been two weeks since I last nursed Harlow...yes, our breastfeeding journey has officially come to an end after 19 months. Earlier on in the weaning process, I truly thought that I would be nursing her well past two years based on her fiery demand if I tried to distract her in any way from nursing. I surrendered to her will & decided to let things unfold naturally... •• ...and here we are. She led the way and chose on her own not to nurse for the first two days, and I did not offer. On the third day, she had a small request to nurse, but was easily calmed when I presented her with an alternative (a yogurt pouch). Everyday thereafter, she either made no requests or just one request for milk and was easily distracted with another choice or just by me adjusting her attention to something else, like a game or book/a song/going outside. •• Two weeks later, and here we are...no demand for milk (except very briefly on an occasion when she has hurt herself somehow or is hangryyyy, but again, easily rerouted to another choice). My milk has completely dried up and I am left with prune bags but, hey ‍♀️ I now have my physical body to myself (minus the occasional titty grasp from Harlow placing her hand down my shirt ever so efficiently) Yes, she still does this throughout the day and I hear it may last for awhile •• But the final point is that we have ran our race & made it to the finish line...and here we are!✨ Photo: @justcallmetre #abeeutifullife #breastfeeding #breastmilk #nursing #breastfeedingmom #breastfeedingjourney
