" On the left is probably the most embarrassing picture of me that I still allow on social media It’s from July 2016 when I was at my heaviest (240ish). My family was visiting me and we went to a Yankee game. My boyfriend took this pic of me and my nieces and I was mortified when I saw it. I had no idea I took up that much space. I just don’t remember being that big. Logically it makes sense but it’s still a tough thing to confront, even when I’m just remembering it. Fast forward 20 months later and I’m down 108 lbs. and well I don’t take up nearly as much space! I still struggle with seeing my current self clearly but it helps to see how far I’ve come, especially when I can “recreate” certain moments like this." ✅

Is your Monday to Friday ‘perfectly strict’ and weekends an absolute train wreck⁉️ In the dieting world a restricted Mon-Fri and blow out Sat-Sun pattern is a common vicious cycle and indicates a poor relationship with food. Essentially dieters consider food in two categories either good or bad and anything falling into the ‘bad’ category is usually what is consumed in uncontrolled portions when the diet is too restrictive! Forget 'good' and 'bad' labels - in it's best practice flexible dieting is a balance of 80% nutrient dense wholefood and 20% food for the soul.
Why this science based strategy is beneficial for you:
✅RESULTS: Hitting YOUR intake requirements (if your goal intake is set right) achieving results ✅EATING TO PREFERENCE: Enjoying foods of your choice!
✅EDUCATION: You understand how the body recognises food & how to eat for your body!
✅MAINTAIN YOUR SOCIAL LIFE: With the tools to make allowances & guesstimate so dining out is possible while dieting! ✅BUILD A BETTER RELATIONSHIP WITH FOOD: Flexible dieting minimises restrictions and therefore managing binge eating, blow outs & food avoidance ✅SUSTAINABLE: A practice you can sustain long term!
Food doesn’t ONLY serve the purpose of fuel but is also able to be enjoyed, whether that be your wedding cake, a glass of celebratory bubbles or chip and dip on a weekend away. Don’t avoid these occasions, the beauty of flexible dieting in its best practice is that it can factor in each of these scenarios within what your body needs for your goals. It doesn’t deprive you of health benefits, but rather ensures longevity and a good relationship with food. ⠀ .

It is far easier to cut some calories from your diet through a few light switches & portion control than trying to counteract excessive food consumption over your #weekend #cheatmeals with exercise. As shown above, the proof is in the pudding.
A lot of people believe cardio is the secret to fat loss, avoiding weights in fear of getting ‘too big’, using cardio to lessen the damage after a binge or blowout to counteract what in actual fact is only a mere dint in comparison to what they’ve actually consumed.
So let's clear the air - cardio isn’t the answer to your fat loss prayers. Fat loss is determined by calories in vs calories out, of which nutrition is key in driving the result. Exercise is an accessory to your plan, additional activity equates to additional burned calories; it will also provide you with improved fitness, good endorphins and many other physical & mental health benefits, but it will not be the a quick fix to erase your food guilt or drive results on its own.
You also don’t need to miss out on dining out if you’re trying to lose weight, it’s all about CHOICES ⚠️ A lot of people on a #fatloss journey will isolate & forbid themselves from dining out in fear it will stall progress. If your diet is restrictive it sets you up for potential derails and blowouts & also means that your practices aren’t sustainable. ✔️ Here's our tips for making it work:
✅Save a calorie allowance during the day ✅Consider protein, fiber & balance in each meal for a better end outcome
✅Pre plan - look at the menu prior to stay on track ✅Many components = more complicated to track ✅Note the cooking method: oil = 120 calories per tablespoon ✅Control portions - everything in moderation!
✅Pick smarter beverages and limit / keep track of alcohol.
Work smarter, not harder & have a good relationship with both food and exercise to see real results

Fruit is such an important part of a well rounded diet, containing vitamins, minerals, plant chemicals and fiber! A diet high in vegetable and fruit has been proven to help prevent disease such as a cancer and type two diabetes.
.
You should aim for five servings of fruit per day.

FLEXIBLE DIETING 101

Have you ever been curious about “Flexible Dieting”? Or maybe you just want to learn a little more about it?
.
If yes, here’s the gist of it:
.⠀⠀
Flexible Dieting is often directly associated with the “IIFYM” (If It Fits Your Macros) style of eating, which often gets a bad rap because of the idea that as long as foods “fit your macros” any food source will do whether its cookies or kale.
⠀⠀
While this position does hold up from strictly a “Calories In” vs. “Calories Out” perspective, there are more variables that we must discuss.
⠀⠀
1️⃣ The main one is food quality.
⠀⠀
Food quality does matter from a total health perspective, an energy level perspective, a sustainability perspective and a results perspective.
⠀⠀
So that’s why pizza, pop tarts, ice cream and skittles should not be the bulk of your diet. However, it’s totally cool if you fit them into your diet, and allow flexibility.
⠀⠀
This is where the term “Flexible Dieting” comes into play, as opposed to just “IIFYMing” it.
⠀⠀
Flexible Dieting is essentially the idea that 80% of your daily calorie intake should come from whole, healthy foods like lean proteins, fruits, veggies, whole grains and healthy fats.
⠀⠀
This also leaves 20% of your total calorie intake to be distributed into eating foods you really enjoy, like Oreo’s and donuts.
⠀⠀
So on a 2,000 calorie diet, ~1,600 calories should come from foods like chicken breast, brown rice, broccoli, strawberries and nuts and ~400 can come from a slice of chocolate cake or a snickers bar. Make sense? .⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ . •

HOW TO EAT PROTEIN

So, when I was a young bro my go to proteins would be chicken breast and tuna.
.
Every. Single. Effin. Day!
.
Talk about boring.
.
Not to mention, from a nutrition stand point it just wasn’t optimal. .
Because I ate the same things over and over this meant I wasn’t getting a broad spectrum of micronutrients
.
That was when I was young and dumb.
.
Now, I think I’m a little smarter.
.
So my advice to you is to get a variety of proteins in through the week. Put them on rotation. .
Of course, you can apply this concept how you want but the main thing is that you rotate your proteins and keep it varied throughout the week and from week to week. •
