Progress was made today on my kitchen!! And as if that doesn’t make today enough of a good day... my husband actually said “ that it’s looking great” . My husband isn’t one for home renovations and wasn’t a huge fan of me tearing apart our kitchen BUT he actually gave in and said he likes it . In the end he really doesn’t care and honestly he takes a good few days to notice anytime I change anything . So that in itself is a win in my books!! . . Chewin' bubble gum and kickin' some serious gopher butt here on this lovely #IamYourFarmer Thursday afternoon.⠀ ⠀ If you've been following me for a while now, you may remember my gopher hunting from last year. Still not allowed to use a gun... probably for the best ⠀ ⠀ Since we're a certified organic operation we don't use chemicals or poisons for pest control around the farm. Nope, we simply hit up the candy isle at our local grocery store and clear them out of Juicy Fruit. I break up the sticks and plug them in the holes around our fields and BOOM problem solved. The pesky gophers get a tasty last meal and we save our crops from significant damage. Oh hey it’s been a while since I’ve introduced myself on the ‘Gram. Thought I’d take a quick minute to say hello to the new faces and share some fun facts about me ⠀ ⠀ My name is Katelyn and I am a Farmer from Southern Alberta I work alongside my husband and our crew on our families certified organic grain and oilseed farm. We grow a variety of crops such as wheat, rye, pulses, and hemp ⠀ ⠀ I started Rudy’s Goat Shack one year ago yesterday and became known as the goat lady around our parts. This year I have expanded the herd to 10 goats and two bottle beef calves. ❤️⠀ ⠀ I started blogging about my farm life back in early 2017 and have recently started a podcast. You may have heard me talk about it a time or two... ⠀ ⠀ The Rural Woman Podcast is a collection of stories and interviews from women in agriculture. This guy right here is my everything. He's my friend, my love, my sidekick, my husband and he's my boss. All that wrapped up in one handsome fella, lucky eh? I wish I could tell you it's all rainbows and butterflies, but that would be dishonest. If I could go back and tell my naive city girl self what it would be like to marry a farmer, I might have thought twice about it. ⠀ ⠀ When you marry a farmer you not only marry him, but the farm too. Mix that in with extended farm family you're really saying 'I Do" to a whole new life. I am grateful to our resilience and dedication to one another and figuring out how to make a marriage and farm work simultaneously. Like I said, it can be difficult. I'm getting Rudy's Goat Shack all prepped and ready for the season. I'm hoping to bring my new best friends home as early as this weekend! ❤⠀ ⠀ My job of official fence mover is about the commence. Last year I gave the goats a pretty large area to browse so I didn't have to move the fence too many times. But this year I plan on grazing them in multiple smaller areas so there will be a lot more moving fence. I use electric net fencing to keep my furry critters inside. It worked great last year as long as I remembered to plug it back in after I unplugged it ‍♀️ To live and learn right?
