Taking my time and soaking in every second his tiny hand was in mine. • Now he is so used to this regular task that he sits patiently for me while we sing songs and practice our numbers. • Please pay attention to the ordinary moments. The Kids Who Need The Most Love Will Ask For It In The Most Unloving Ways _________________________________ This quote seems so appropriate after the weekend we have had with Reuben. After a tiring week at school with it being sports week and a late night on Fri his behaviour has just been absolutely ridiculous this weekend. Meltdown after meltdown to the through the roof hyper there hasn't been much in-between. It is so mentally draining dealing with it, especially when you rarely get a break & with being his 'safe place' I bare the brunt of it. When I look at these pictures though, I feel nothing but so much love for him, my heart hurts for him too knowing how hard it must be for him living in his little world and not being able to communicate the way people expect him too. To know he doesn't conform to what society expects of children, of people, can be hard but do you know what you'll never meet another Reuben. Hey friends...Jaxson’s Mom here LONG rant ahead.... - I have a confession to make. Today I am struggling. I am struggling to do what I encourage so many other parents to do. And that’s to keep running the race and finish strong. - - I’m in a place where I feel like I’m damned if I do and damned if don’t. Why? Well, dealing with the School District in our City is reaaaaaaallly draining - I feel like since we’ve moved to Texas it’s been a constant battle with trying to find the “right fit” for Jaxson’s Services and Education. As I’ve mentioned before- this State does not recognize “developmental delays” which looks at the whole child. Back in California they did and it made things so much better and smooth. - - My “Mom instincts” are very peaked right now. As we approach the end of the school year I just don’t feel at ease with how we are being treated and how they feel about Jaxson. - - He is an amazing & smart little boy. And I feel like I am CONSTANTLY having to remind them of his history and how amazing he is RIGHT NOW! I spoke to his ST yday and told her how he spelled his name and some colors and her response: “Wow! He probably memorized the colors since he has a photographic memory!” how about NO, he read the letters because he knows his alphabet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! - Ugh! She then also said that because he knows his ABCs, Numbers, etc. it’s confusing (to her) that he can’t communicate better ‍♀️ their suggestion is to get him evaluated for Austism and ADHD. (Um no!) - If there wasn’t only 5 days left and if Jaxson didn’t enjoy going, I seriously would pull the plug because it just feels messy! Acknowledge that Jaxson is smart and that he is making progress. Period! I am supposed to have one final meeting next week with these people and I’m already like - Because of Jaxson I have to keep pushing, I have to remind myself that this race is not given to the swift but to those that endure! I’m enduring y’all but whew it ishard! So please say a prayer for us & send some well wishes. #themarathoncontinues

Today was a day I was glad to see them go to bed. #tbt// Teeny tiny DJ (and this was pretty big compared to when he was first born) I remember in the beginning having to ask to touch him. Ask to hold him. Ask to change his diapers and if I could bathe him. When they tell the NICU is a rollercoaster, they aren’t lying, high-highs and low-lows. I can’t count the hours I spent by his bedside, the ounces of milk I pumped, the tears I cried, but it was worth it to be able to watch him grow. Always grateful for the journey, forever thankful to be his mom #NICUAwarenessMonth

#tbt//This was two summers ago and DJ was semi fresh out the NICU. I remember how scary and nervous I was taking him out and about; We had our portable O2, extra O2 in the car, feeding pump, AND a diaper bag. Going to hang out for an hour and it looked like we were taking a weekend trip lol Nowadays I grab a snack or two, his backpack and we’re out. All of this reminds me that seasons change and things evolve and get better
