“Shopping used to be my coping strategy. I’d go shopping to cheer me up on bad days, and to celebrate big accomplishments. It was an eye-opener for me, and I didn’t want to support that system anymore. So I decided to be more mindful over my wardrobe, and switched to secondhand and fair fashion.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ A year ago, I created my first ever spring capsule, and I've stuck to seasonal capsules ever since. During that process, I finally found my own style, simply because you can't have something in a capsule you'll never wear.⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ The most significant benefit for me is being able to create so many more outfits while owning fewer clothes. Every piece is a favorite that fits perfectly and makes me feel good!⁣ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⁣ Building capsules has changed my shopping behavior substantially. *A rainbow of secondhand jackets* . . I have a wardrobe in the spare room that holds mostly coats/jackets and although these are all secondhand, it's terrible that they mostly go unworn. . .I see jackets in charity shops and often think they are a good investment but then I don't wear them. I make this mistake again and again - I don't know why. It's exactly the sort of behaviour that I was attempting to break when I stopped buying new. The high of finding something in a charity shop is addictive but getting the thrill from buying something and then not wearing is just continuing a cycle that I'm fighting hard to break. I want all purchases to be thoughtful and get worn. As you can see here - I'm very much a work in progress. . .A few weeks ago, Gillian at @uncomplicatedspaces wore a different jacket every day for a week in an attempt to wear some of the jackets that didn't get enough wear. I thought I'd borrow this idea to see if I can make any of these work or whether they need to be donated to the charity shop. . .Starting tomorrow, I'm going to wear each of these jackets with the items from my capsule wardrobe. . .#weekofwearing
