365 Days . . Welp! There’s officially a year between my first ever hair picture and today! I committed to the Curly Girl Method a year ago (after some dabbling in June 2018), and I’m honestly shocked. I didn’t start this expecting these results. I expected to see my hair change, don’t get me wrong. I just never imagined how different my hair could be when I started reading labels, put down the heat tools, and ditched the damage! . . . There’s plenty of technical advice I could give. Plenty of products I can recommend. Lots of inspirational Instagram accounts I can point you to. But the most important tip I can give anyone has nothing to do with hair. . . . You are unique. You are beautifully made. If you choose to embrace a healthy hair lifestyle, don’t compare your progress to anyone else. No one else on the planet has the same head of hair as you ❤️ The most important thing I’ve found is that comparison is TRULY the thief of joy when following the Curly Girl Method (and everything else if life, for that matter). I have found that all of the products, application methods, and ingredient knowledge doesn’t matter when my heart isn’t in it for the right reasons. ❤️ I know I say this a lot, so forgive me if I’m redundant. SWIPE TO SEE HOW I GOT DEEEES REFRESH CURLS okay I’m like REALLY about this new format! It really shows how my process works and editing takes LITERALLY so much less time now HAHAHA. So first and for most the back of my hair is EXTREMELY DRY because I diffused as fast as possible cuz I was running late lol the faster I diffuse the drier my curls get it. So it’s just something to keep in mind. So I used @innersenseorganicbeauty line which is concentrated so that’s why between each product I sprayed water! I wanted to dilute the product as I dispersed each one! . Step one rinse with ur favorite conditioner (I did the night before. I always rinse with conditioner during my summer refresh routine since I needdddd that moisture) and fully spray down my hair to wet. . Step two spray water and then I add @innersenseorganicbeauty I create volume. It creates great slip and starts to clump my curls. . Step three spray water then I add @innersenseorganicbeauty quite calm curl cream . Step four spray water then @innersenseorganicbeauty I create hold gel . Step five i spray water then finish off with @innersenseorganicbeauty I create volume foam . Then I finish off with diffusing. I use a CHEAP conair drier that comes with a diffuser attachment. You can do whateve or use whateve. You can always air dry too. SWIPE TO SEE HOW I GET THIS LEWK Okay so I formatted my video a little bit different today! It’s my 12 minute routine (minutes the time for diffusing) sped up to 5 minutes! This breaks it down into sections so you can see the whole process! I rly didn’t edit much out so this is how I work! . Step one I rinsed and detangle with @devacurl decadence conditioner! I don’t consider this a wash at all. I’m not scrubbing and I’m leaving a lot of that conditioner in . Step two I add @rizoscurls conditioner as my leave in! . Step three I had @rizoscurls curl defining cream to lock in moisture . Step four I add @jessicurl gel. It’s my favorite during the summer! And then to finish off I added @sheamoisture mousse. . ➰How my journey went so far➰ . Hereby some pictures from me at the very beginning of my journey until now. . I experienced also a over moisturized and protein overload in my hair. In the beginning it was for sure a trial and error. I wanted to delve more into it so that I could understand my hair better. That will be also my message to you. Try to immerse yourself more in it instead of just doing something. Often certain ways have a reason. Read a lot, do step by step and watch many tutorials of the curlies in this community!! ➰Moisture Overload: What Is It & How To Fix It➰ . You can actually over-moisture your hair and cause more harm than good. Our hair swells when wet, then shrinks as it dries, and that back and forth as you try to keep it constantly moisturized causes breakage. Besides constantly spritzing your hair with water, deep conditioning your hair well beyond the time recommended by the manufacturer or even overnight on a regular basis can cause over-moisturization as well. Diffusing, a curly girl's best friend? If you ask me, I'd say ABSOLUTELY! Of course, I don't speak for all curly girls. So, don't take my word for it. If you're curious about it though, I FINALLY have the tutorials for it. That's right, I'm putting out two! Why? You may have noticed sometimes my hair looks different at times, that is mainly depending on how I diffuse. Figured I'd show you both ways. Remember this awesome wash day? The right was my hair 8 hours later. What happened Life happened. ⁣ ⁣ I played badmitton in 100% humidity and was outside in intermittent rain for 5 hours. Was I trying to protect my curls? No... Was I sad to ‘ruin’ a great wash day? Also no.⁣ ⁣ Healthy hair is notoriously more resilient than unhealthy hair. I’m in a place now where I know renewed curls are just a wash away.⁣ ⁣ Living in your life is way more fun than being a spectator of it. I hope if you’re given the chance to swim, play, hike, workout or whatever curl diminishing activity you may be presented with, that you take it. ⁣ ⁣ I choose working out over perfect curls daily. No one has picture perfect curls 24/7 and I am certainly no exception. ...⁣ ⁣ This was my last wash day before my blow dryer broke. I should have taken pictures of my last two wash days because they weren’t good at all!! If you look closely at my last video post you can kind of see how wonky and flat my hair was. I’ve been over scrunching my hair so it will dry faster ‍♀️⁣ ⁣ Anyway, back to this wash day. My star gels for this wash day were Kinky Curly curling custard, Ecoslay Orange Marmalade and Aussie Instant Freeze. All three are glycerin free. I’ve found that my hair likes glycerin in the humidity. I wanted to see what using very little glycerin would do! ⁣ ⁣ I have now tried this gel combo a couple of times and oddly enough I get definition in my mid lengths but my ends go kind of straight. I had almost no frizz and my definition seemed to last longer through out the days. My hair felt heavier than normal but my volume was ok, not as good as when I use glycerin heavy products.
