Another day, another opportunity to develop #practicallifeskills
Every time Mr. L (22 months) helps me cook he builds upon prior skills to generate new ones. Today I observed him have a bit of a lightbulb moment and work out that in order to cover the pastry with the egg wash (prior skill) more accurately he needed to use his other hand to hold them while he brushed (new skill)
Seeing him refine his skills and progress developmentally simply through participation in our home life is amazing

Learning tower by @littlebiglearning
I hear parents say this to their kids ALL. THE. TIME. I've been guilty of saying it when I've had too much too ♀️♀️ But does this line really work for anyone? Even adults who are having a difficult emotion? Humans are not born with the ability to self control their impulses, they need to be learned.
When your child is "throwing a tantrum" or "crying uncontrollably" or "too hyper" they are in primitive flight or fight mode and the hard wiring to control it doesn't exist.
Help them learn to do this.
Hold them.
Ask them to wiggle their toes.
Have them name 2 things around them of each color: blue, green, red.
Ask them to identify 2 sounds around them.
Help them make a tight fist as they breathe in and relax their hand as they breathe out.
Ask them what their favorite color is and have them pretend they have that color balloon in their belly and blow it up real big and then deflate it.
You're teaching them mindfulness. You're helping create the writing in their brain that allows them breathe, regulate their emotions and increase distress tolerance.
Fun fact: this tip isn't just for kids but works really well for adults too!

Straight question.. Do You Believe in Yourself Well for a long long time i did not believe in myself .. I felt i did but was very superficial - it lasted for sometime with lots of doubts, judgements and pre conceived notions
...
When i did a self analysis (few months back) i realised the root of it lied in my childhood and i was taken aback how small incidents make you feel.
..
We all know how indian grade system focuses on achieving best of grades like 80% etc to get to a good college and if thats not over the various examinations to get in field of your choice or college of your choice etc etc. Now i was always an average scoring girl happy to be in the range of 65 to 73 types. But definetly this was not enough in the eye of the education system that is prevalent in our society.
..
And so the entire cycle started where teachers did not consider me as 'good student' and i lost a part of belief, mom got worried and that made me doubt my capabilities, i got compared to grade achievers and now i felt i did not have it in me and as i progressed in college and a job, although i was doing well i always lacked self confidence bcaz somewhere i doubted into believing who i am
..
It's only now when i became a SAHM and started focusing on my positive living regime i realized this underlying truth embedded within my soul and ever since i have been working to regain my lost belief in myself .. Steps that i took to start believing in myself again
1. First is i embrace the lack of belief i have about myself
2. The second step is i speak out the following statement in my mind or loudly - i choose to destroy this thought and uncreate it.
3. Then i recite some positive affirmations like i can do it, i am capable, i am gifted , i have the power in me etc etc
4. This one is important - take the plunge (action) or say yes to a situation which i would generally say no to
What happens next is magic - a new and a true you is reborn for good. And the moment you start believing in yourself you start operating from the state of infinite possibilities which boost your self esteem. ..
Do you believe in the power of belief ? Let me know in the comments below
