I really felt like Venice was when I stepped up my photography game. The only thing that’s changed about you is your physical ability. Who you are and your unique gifts are still the same. While we can’t do the exact same activities that we had hoped for to do, we can still find ways to express our true selves. ⠀ ⠀ Jennifer Brea’s “Unrest” was so deeply inspiring to me not only because of it’s representation and message, but because of how she was expressing who she was supposed to be through it. Before getting sick, she was a highly intelligent, passionate person who was meant to make a difference in this world. While she didn’t get a PhD and work in her desired field because of her illness, as a chronically ill person she still set the world on fire and stunned people with her brilliance, like it was always meant to be. ⠀ ⠀ You don’t have to make a documentary to achieve what you are supposed to do with your life. With enough openness and trial and error, you can still be who you are supposed to be. ⠀ ⠀ People who can’t become parents can still nurture little ones by being a kickass godparent or aunt/uncle. People who were meant to create art may not be able to work in their desired medium frequently, but can find a medium that works with their abilities. People with considerable intellects will find interesting ways to express it. People who were supposed to be a guiding, loving force in their family can achieve that even being physically limited. ⠀ ⠀ I wouldn’t try to be a basketball player, avid skier, dancer or anything like that. We do have physical limitations. My heart goes out to people who were highly involved in physical pursuits before becoming ill. ⠀ ⠀ But not all is lost because we are chronically ill. It’s a much harder journey to get there, and things won’t be how we had hoped for them to be. But in the end, we can be who we are supposed to be

Hopefully soon, the #DisruptingDisbelief campaign and other forces will educate enough doctors that we won’t have to hear endless bullst from them. Hopefully, this disease will finally be greeted with humility and curiosity! ⠀ ⠀ Since Jennifer Brea’s stunning recovery, I’ve been reevaluating what I do and don’t know about this disease. Before, I was really shut off and judgmental towards stories of ME/CFS recovery. Now, I’ve become open to the great vastness of the reality and possibility of recovery. ⠀ ⠀ My sense of wonder about everything that I don’t know excites me. I’m jazzed to get deep into the research, listen to people’s stories, and truly challenge what I think I know about this disease. I’m on a journey for the ultimate truth about the force that has hijacked every last moment of my life. Anyone with else excited to learn about this disease as research progresses?
