News Reelz: The Disney+ streaming service already knows the way into our hearts: make their service really cheap. It was announced today that the platform will launch on November 12 & it will run for the low price of $6.99 a month. . . The powerhouse entertainment conglomerate showcased its forthcoming Netflix competitor during a presentation for investors on Thursday, featuring exclusive and original content, an extensive back catalog, and a not-unfamiliar interface. Here are a few takeaways: . . 1. At $6.99 a month, the service will be cheaper than that of its competitors like Netflix & Amazon Video. Amazon Prime Video and Netflix each cost $8.99 a month for their most basic plans; Netflix’s premium pricing tier costs $15.99 for 4K resolution and the ability to watch on four devices simultaneously. (Meanwhile, Disney now owns a majority stake in Hulu, which costs $5.99 monthly for its basic, ad-supported version. The ad-free tier costs $11.99 a month.) Neither Amazon Prime Video nor Netflix currently offers an annual subscription plan —unless you count Amazon’s all-inclusive Prime membership for $119 a year — but Disney+ will. Annual subscribers will be able to sign up for $69.99 per year. . . 2. The Simpsons will make Disney+ their new, exclusive streaming home for all 30 of its seasons. So much for that FXX Simpsons World launch... . . 3. 5,000 (!) episodes of Disney shows will be available at launch. . . 4. The Disney+ inventory will include plenty of older shows, as well as several new ones. The new offerings include The Mandalorian, a live-action Star Wars series set between Revenge of the Sith and A New Hope, helmed by Jon Favreau; a National Geographic-produced travel series starring Jeff Goldblum; and High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, based on the classic Disney Channel Original Movie. . . 5. Marvel’s Disney+ shows will matter to the Marvel Cinematic Universe. These series include WandaVision, which will star Scarlet Witch (a.k.a. Wanda) and Vision; Falcon and Winter Soldier, a series about the relationship between Captain America’s titular pals; and Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston as the fan-favorite Asgardian. Road To Endgame: Thor: The Dark World (2013). . . @midlevelmoviereviews reviewed Thor: The Dark World today and you definitely need to head to their page to read it if you haven't & now I'm tasked to give you some fun facts about one of the lesser entries of the MCU. Enjoy folks: . . 1. Chris Hemsworth grew out his hair for over a year to have more authentic long hair, rather than use a wig, like he had to do in Thor. . . 2. The prologue was filmed in a blend of live-action and CGI, as the Asgardian/Dark Elf costumes were too constrictive, in which to fight effectively and convincingly. There are only three characters played by human actors in the entire scene, Malekith, Kurse, and Bor. All other characters are CGI. . . 3. According to Natalie Portman, she was not available to film the post-credit scene where Thor and Jane Foster finally kiss. Instead it was shot with Chris Hemsworth's wife Elsa Pataky. . . 4. This is the last film written by Don Payne (who also wrote Thor (2011)). He died from bone cancer before the film was released. . . 5. The filmmakers chose Iceland as the setting for the dark world of Svartalfheim, for its black volcanic landscapes. The name itself, "Svartalfheim", literally means "Home of the Black Elves" in Old Norse (Icelandic). . . 6. Because of the height difference between the two, a box, and later a ramp, had to be used in some of the close-up, and kissing scenes between Natalie Portman and Chris Hemsworth. . . 7. Loki was originally not going to appear at all, and there was going to be a much greater focus on Malekith and the Dark Elves. Following his popularity in The Avengers (2012), the script was re-written to give him a big role. . . 8. Director Alan Taylor was so impressed by Adewale Akinnuoye-Agbaje's performance as Kurse, he made Adewale do all of his stunts, because the stuntmen did not move the same way as he did. . . 9. The mid-credits scene was directed by James Gunn, and ties into Guardians of the Galaxy (2014). . . 10. Alan Taylor was unhappy with how the movie turned out. Although he had received full creative freedom while the movie was shot, he stated that the studio had turned it into a different movie during post
