Mindfulness lesson with 1st grade. Big thanks to my awesome intern who helped me plan this lesson. I had planned to do it with 1st & 2nd but after seeing how great they did I also did it with kindergarten and third grade. And later this month I’ll be in 4th & 5th grade. We discussed briefly what mindfulness was, had them listen to bells, belly breathing, jumping around then listening and feeling their heartbeat, using glitter bottle to show how “cloudy” our brain can get when feeling strong emotions but then once we calm down (glitter settling) it clears up and we can think clearly, they also sat in the dark and listened to different nature sounds and we discussed what they heard, what they imagined. Overall it was such an easy lesson but one of my favorites by far! I’m so proud of these kiddos for being so quiet and calm for 40 minutes!

At some point we all get over the boring, old stories we tell ourselves about our perceived failures. The way we limit ourselves from becoming who we were made to be by repeating the same old worn out stories- a coping mechanism for sure, but one that doesn’t actually serve us well. The trick is to figure out how to replace those old stories with healthier and truer stories - and then to BELIEVE those new stories. Let them take root, to water them and allow them to bloom. . In this one precious life we have, what if we embraced the chance to change the story we tell about ourselves? Have you all seen that meme going around where a caterpillar is having a coffee date with a butterfly and the caterpillar says “you’ve changed” and the butterfly says “you’re supposed to.” The best imaginary conversation that gets me. . Shifts happen whether we sign up for them or not. Not necessary fun to get that initial shock wave, but learning how to be patient and loving with myself has been such a gift. I want to give a sincere thank you to @happygirlglowofficial for the opportunity to enjoy the @fetedurose Rosé and Music Fest on Sunday! It was fun to dance and celebrate life with some great people, as well as, meet some of you all in person. I spent yesterday in reflection, a state of gratefulness and surrounded by love. I focused on the freedoms I am afforded due to the sacrifices of others, paid respect to those who lost their lives protecting mine and prayed for those I love who are currently serving, as well as, the ones serving with them and their love ones who are missing them.
