Another little addition to my collection for those of you who don’t know just yet, I got diagnosed with diabetes Type 1 almost 3 years ago. This means that I am insulin dependent. Ever since I got diagnosed, it has been a roller coaster for me with loads of hypos and hypers affecting my day to day activities. I could not drive for a while because of the hypoglycemic episodes I had and I had to measure my sugar level every 2 hours even when I was sleeping just to minimize the risks of having another episode. It was very hard to begin with but I am happy to say that for the last year and a half my sugar levels are quite regulated! The 640G insulin pump (picture 1) is what helped me to keep my levels within range and I am very grateful for that as I haven’t had a hypoglycemic shock since I started using it! Today I received a new device called #freestylelibre (picture 2) funded from Ninewells Hospital, which will make things even easier! You just scan the sensor and you check your sugar level! Finger pricking is still need but not as often as before! I would like to thank all the companies working in improving the lives of people with diabetes, making it easier for us to have a more carefree life! Insulin is not a cure for people who have diabetes . It just keeps us alive until one is found #findacure2019 Our pancreases produce little to no insulin and hence the need for this insulin therapy. It’s literally like our oxygen. We CANNOT live without it. I’m one of the few people who are fortunate enough to have the best medical care at my disposal. The vast majority do not have the privilege of the latest technology, making their daily lives a struggle.
