Happy Monday ☀️ This week is going to be AMAZING because I am getting my omnipod dash in the mail. I have waited for this day since I was diagnosed, 5 years ago. ⁣ ⁣ At my first “pump meeting” after I was diagnosed I told my nurse that I wanted the omnipod. I was told my insurance did not and would not ever cover the omnipod. ⁣ ⁣ Well, here I am 5 years later and I am getting the omnipod. Don’t be fooled, my insurance still does NOT cover the omnipod, but my nurse is so amazing and sent in an appeal to my insurance company for a special exception. And it was APPROVED! ⁣ ⁣ This week I will be getting my pods and PDM in the mail and hopefully next week I am able to set up an appointment with my nurse to get trained on how to use it. Saying goodbye to my T:slim. ⁣ ⁣ I have been on the tslim insulin pump for 4 years and 8 months. It was the first and only insulin pump I have ever had. It not only impacted my blood sugars and diabetes management, but also my self esteem. ⁣ ⁣ My insulin pump taught me to show who I am, unfiltered, and raw. It taught me to wear my sites with pride, wherever I want, without worry if someone will see them. ⁣ ⁣ I remember when I did my first arm pump site. It was at diabetes camp the summer after I was diagnosed. I had already had this disease for a little over a year, and was so embarrassed to show my robot parts. At camp everyone encouraged me to try new things, so I did. And I have been grateful ever since. ⁣ ⁣ My insulin pump taught me how to truly love myself. Because if you can love yourself with devices, tubes, through many pricks and pokes, and with sticky adhesive all over, you can love yourself through anything. ⁣ ⁣ Thank you tslim, thank you for teaching me how to live a happy life with diabetes. Now it is time to move on. I remember exactly where I was when I wrote the melody...on the beach in Byron Bay. Every time I hear it, it takes me back to that exact moment. The lyrics and melody are still therapeutic for me.
