In radical political circles, it’s common for those of us that are neurodivergent, crazy, and/or mad (especially women/ femmes/transfeminine folks; more layers for Black and brown women and femmes ) to be considered “too much.” It’s common for those of us with autism and other intellectual disabilities—who come from rural areas, grew up poor, are immigrants, and/or didn’t go to college—to get torn apart on social media for not saying all the right things. ACM does not think that harm is OK. What we do believe is that there are those of us who don’t have the mental capacity, cultural background, and/or education to understand all of the new ideas that are coming forth regarding oppression and privilege. When someone makes a mistake, they/we should not be kicked out of groups. This is the same logic that fuels the prison industrial complex. We are not arguing that the people harmed need to be the same people who educate someone who caused harm, *and* we often see people of the same identity (for example white folks) publicly shaming the individual. This is performative and not helpful. Radical space needs to offer more accessible ways for people of different cultures, languages, classes, and abilities to understand the complex theories and ideas that are rooted in academia (and often elitist). We invite all of us to reflect on our privileges and access to political education, to cultivate love and patience, and to become accomplices dismantling the systems of oppression our identities benefit from (most of us are a combination of privileged and marginalized identities). A true accomplice understands that offering support to someone who needs help understanding systemic oppression is more effective and transformative than writing them off. It was a great weekend until it wasn’t. I had some insane GI stuff going on and we had to pull over a million times on the way home for me to puke I’m doing a little better now that the hospital helped stop the vomiting and decrease the abdominal pain. I hate the ER with a passion, but sometimes you just gotta do it. It sucks we have to be so “on” when we are in pain to advocate for ourselves, to explain our complex and rare conditions, and to make sure we aren’t given medications we are allergic to. It’s not easy but we do it, and even though sometimes it can feel like it, we are not alone! One foot in front of the other my friends, thankful for all of you

We equate intelligence with learning but sometimes, it's the stuff you UNLEARN which makes you smarter. Often, unlearning can be just as important as learning. From the day we're born, our brains are inundated with stuff to learn. Social skills, academic skills and lots more. I don't believe we ever stop learning even if our formal education days have ended. I also don't believe that we ever stop unlearning and there will always be stuff to delete from our conscience. My brain haemorrhage did a decent job of wiping out a chunk of my memory but unfortunately, it didn't wipe out all of my habits, routines and memories (often with people ). Learning how to feed and dress myself, speak and type again was bloody hard but sometimes, it was the unlearning of other things that has been even harder! These days I'm trying to be more selective about what habits I learn and who I learn them from so hopefully I won't need to spend as much time and energy unlearning in the future! Moving forward, I really want to learn how to speak more languages and I want to continue unlearning my fears around health anxiety. What do you really want to learn or unlearn? Have a beautiful day xx

How did I end up in a wheelchair from a bite? There was so much coverage all over the media yesterday bc there’s been a new study published which found rapidly increases rates of Lyme diagnosis in the UK so I thought I would share my story ⁣ ⁣ I don’t ever remember being bitten. I don’t ever remember a rash (only 30% of people get the bulls-eye rash if they get Lyme from a tick). You can also get Lyme from horseflies / mosquitos / fleas / spiders (anything that can bite). ⁣I don’t know what bit me or where it was. ⁣ I first got symptoms about age 11-12 (almost 15 years ago) - cognitive at first - problems with reading / writing / concentrating / memory loss / confusion. Then at age 13 I got the HPV vaccine which debilitated my immune system & caused the Lyme to get worse - this is when I developed fatigue.⁣ ⁣ Age 15 I had glandular fever & swine flu which made everything worse - the symptoms of those viruses never went away (sore throat / swollen glands / muscle pain). At 17 I had a ski accident & car crash with head & neck injuries which made everything worse + I developed a lot of head / neck symptoms.⁣ On top of all that throughout my teenage years I experienced a lot of psychological trauma which put my body into a state where it could never recover from anything (infections / injury etc)⁣ ⁣ By my early 20s I was completely bedridden - paralysed of the arms & legs. I didn’t leave my bedroom for 7 months or my house for 11 months. I had blackout blinds / no light for that entire time + couldn’t tolerate any noise or cognitively have any communication. I couldn’t be touched by clothes or bed sheets because I was in so much pain and was about to be put on a tube to be fed because I couldn’t even manage the puréed foods my mum used to spoon feed me. Once every two weeks I was carried from the bed a couple of metres to the bath to be washed / changed pyjamas then back to bed. This was my routine for 7 months.⁣ ⁣ Thankfully I found Breakspear medical a private clinic in Hertfordshire who suspected Lyme, tested me for it (positive) + where I’ve been treated the last 3 years. I have made enormous progress but I still have over 50 different symptoms a day!

So...I have a surprise! On a beautiful sunny day I got to step outside for a few minutes, which completely made my week. . It was so good to feel the breeze and the sun after not knowing if I would have to wait for months before I could feel them again. If you get to go outside today, please take a moment and breathe it all in. . Many thanks to the @nyphospital team for making this possible! . . . . . #hearttransplantjourney #heartjourney #kidneytransplant #renaltransplantation #heart #renaltransplant #hearttransplant #waitinglist #sunset #donatelife #donevida #organdonation #recycleyourself #liveonny #disability #disabilitypride #bionicwoman #prosthetic #adayinthelife #wonderwoman #survivor #outliveyourself #liveonny #cancersurvivor #heartrecipient #nyp #freshair

Do you ever find yourself stuck in thoughts of worst case scenarios? Or the what if’s? These drive me mad sometimes, especially when I’m starting a new drug trial. When I notice my worst case scenario thinking, I slow myself down and I say the simplest phrases to myself like “what could go right?”✨They shift my mindset and help me stay grounded in the midst change. ⭐️ What works/is helpful for you?
