This is my new favorite play hack! I got the idea from @prettyplaypoppy who did an Easter egg version (who got the idea from @playtime.messy.madness!) and it couldn’t be easier- just hot glue designs on a toilet paper roll to make a patterned rolling pin for playdough! I made a mermaid scale pattern for this one, but I’m also thinking we can get some dragon play out of it too. To go with the imprint roll, I gave her three marbled playdough colors (i.e. I didn’t mix the color all the way ), some sea shells, evergreen twigs that I thought could pass as seaweed, and some metallic golden painted curly pasta from an old sensory bin that we used as magical undersea space worms. I was thinking about giving her sand to mix in, but decided my coffee was not strong enough for that impending mess. Number matching board! Today I made this number board for Lawrence, to help with his counting and number recognition. I glued the numbers and mini rainbows onto some cardboard circles and used some velcro to attach them to an old chopping board. (I used velcro so I can mix them up or change it to something else in the future.) I then hammered in some push pins and grabbed some rubber bands. This activity was trickier than I thought it would be for him, so we completed it together. Cardboard Car Park . YOU guys asked for it; so here it is! I asked on my stories a little while ago what kind of DIY with cardboard you wanted to see next. And A LOT of you said parking garage. I had way too much fun putting this together this afternoon . I don’t consider myself very good at crafty things that you do with your hands; I can’t knit, or draw very well... I don’t really have the patience. But glueing together a bunch of cardboard to make something new to play with is totally my jam! And the look on the kids faces when they saw the end result made it even better. Of course, I had to add some colour-matching to the parking spaces because = . . .
