I know we are supposed to be restoring this old place, but it makes me sad that soon we will be chipping all of this mustard paint and painting it fresh. Part of me is a little nervous the house won’t look as old. I wish we could restore it to the middle of its life, not the very beginning. . A lot of people think newer ways are better than the old. For example, vinyl is believed to be better than wood, ceramic and tephalon pans are thought better than cast iron. But really they’re just easier, not better. Cast iron conducts heat better and adds flavor to your food. Wood siding lasts over a century, whereas vinyl has to be replaced every 10 years or so. Yes cast iron gets a little rusty with use, and wood starts chipping after a decade. But it only adds charm and doesn't affect the function. . The charm we desperately look for in the modern world but can’t seem to find is simply because it’s all too new. People would rather replace things than fix them with love over and over, adding layer after layer of charm. . But it's the sense of imperfection, whimsy, and uniqueness in used things, old things, and handmade things that make us smile. We must fight to preserve them! Anybody with me?

Decydując się na psa wiedzieliśmy co się z tym wiąże. Nie mieliśmy tylko pojęcia o tym, jak wiele pracy czeka nas przy szczeniaku. Odpowiedzialność i cierpliwość. Tego się uczymy codziennie z Mią. . Nasze życie zaczęło wyglądać zupełnie inaczej, a codzienności uczymy się na nowo. Jedną ręką bawiąc się gryzakiem z psem, a drugą malując przy porannej kawie. Jedną ręką trzymając psa, drugą sprzątając siuśki z podłogi. I można by tak wymieniać bez końca. . The cottage garden is coming into its own now and interacting with the house in the way I had hoped, like the garden is spilling over onto the house like a gentle wave. I can already see that there are lots of plants I need to move come autumn, which is great because there are still two beds in full sun that I have covered with plastic to kill the ground elder and weaken the bindweed in that area. Currently my pumpkins are slowly taking it over but its nice to have lots of plants to fill that out once the pumpkins are harvested, so next year this area will be one big jungle of perennials, shrubs, climbers, and a variety of edibles
