Are your knees still bent when you think you have fully extended your legs? These are all common mistakes that can be fixed. . The complete leg extension in weightlifting is probably the most difficult part to teach or to learn. Before we practice the movement, we must be able to envisage it. If we cannot form a correct mental picture, how can we execute it in reality? . Practice is essential but it does not make anything great. Precise and correct practice makes graceful movement. You can easily practice the wrong movements 1 billion times that will be perfectly wrong. My recommendation is to understand it and to practice it in slow motion, and then you speed it up as fast as you can. Power = Force X Velocity. . In the video, National Junior Champion Zou Han talks about how to correctly execute the leg extension. The goal is to send the bar upwards, not forward. We must keep in mind the first principle in weightlifting - Closeness. . She mentions that we need to combine two horizontal forces to create a vertical force. It is very obvious that the two forces are from the knees and the hips. This is probably the best way to describe it for people who still couldn't find the feeling - let your knees go backward and let your hips go forward at the same time aggressively with power. I have been teaching it this way and the results are pretty good so far. . To make the lift even better, DO NOT let your torso lean back at any time during the pull. If you lean back too early, your hips will definitely go forward and bang the bar and we do not want that. Keep the bar close!
