I bet all of you wonder why, even if you start dieting, your weight just doesn’t want to go down. And no, it’s not because you’re “special”, “God hates you” or whatever your reason might be.. the simple answer is: Water retention. -
And besides the muscle gains that could happen for beginners [(and still impair WEIGHT) but not fat loss] let’s take a finer look at what happens to the fat cells once you start dieting. -
When you start eating at a caloric deficit, meaning that you’re now providing less nutrients to your body, for it to use its internal stores of energy, your fat cells start releasing fat for the “missing” energy not coming from your diet. -
However, because these cells are VERY stubborn, they get refilled with water first, before saying the final goodbye. -
It’s like a double check from your body which’s telling you: “are you really wanting me to release this precious stored energy?”

Yeah..
This means your weight could fluctuate alot and even go higher, freak you out more and make you quit, but you shouldn’t.
I know how frustrating it is to see your weight either stall or go higher when you’re depriving yourself, but that’s just the way it is! -

While stretching out after a training session, I asked a client what she had eaten so far that day. "This morning I had coffee and a bagel…". After some back and forth dialogue, I find out that she was not just referring to a black coffee with some cream/sugar, but to a calorie dense, sugar filled, whipped cream topped Starbucks drink. While there's nothing wrong with the occasional treat, there is a huge difference between a regular coffee and a fancy coffee shop drink.

☕️ A Grande Starbucks Frappuccino has roughly 360 calories and over 50g of sugar in it. Just this coffee drink alone could be almost 25% of her total calorie needs for the day. A habit that adds an extra 350+ daily calories could alone bring weight loss to a halt.

You reach a point where you're sick and tired of being out of shape, not having any energy, and lacking confidence. Something clicks and you decide you're going to go all in on weight loss and get into shape.

You make drastic changes to your diet, eliminating all junk foods, and possibly even whole food groups (i.e carbs). You maybe stick to this plan for a few weeks and make some progress, before something throws you off track (birthday party, holiday, night out with friends, etc.), and you fall right back into your old ways of eating. Along with falling off the wagon, you also gain back all the weight you lost, putting you right back where you started.

Eventually you will get a surge of motivation and do the same thing again, causing you to spin your wheels through the same unhealthy cycle over and over.

It's key that you change the way to look at being 'on' or 'off' the plan. You need to find the middle ground, where a majority of the foods you eat are healthy and nutrient dense, but also be able to incorporate some fun foods in moderation.

This will help you to stay on track, and stop you from viewing foods as good or bad. Your diet should be something you can stick to for the long-term….not something you do for just 4-6 weeks.

Let’s talk about 90-day challenges, and how 90% of them are total bullcrap.
⠀
The problem isn’t always the programs themselves, though. There are plenty of 90-day challenges that provide value & education, and can get you fantabulous results.
⠀
My beef's with the marketing behind most challenges.
⠀
See, many on ‘em prey on desperate people and say things like:
⠀
“Get six-pack abs in just 90 days!”
⠀
“Shred all your body fat in 12 weeks… just in time for summer!”
⠀
Sounds enticing, right?
⠀
And depending on your current state, those claims might be true. If you’re already lean, or just have 10-15 pounds of fat to lose, 90 days can be a realistic amount of time to see results.
⠀
But(t) if you’re hoping to lose 40+ pounds, or go from “fat to fit” in a mere 12 weeks, you’re only setting yourself up for failure…
⠀
Truth is, transforming your body takes a LONG time.
⠀
And even then, your results are meaningless unless you build a lifestyle around maintaining ‘em.
⠀
So when people ask me “how long do you think it’ll take me to achieve my goals?”
⠀
I usually say, “at least one year.”
⠀
And that’s regardless of their starting point.
⠀
Reason being, whether you have 10 or 100 pounds to lose, changing deeply-rooted unhealthy habits and negative self-talk is going to take more than 90 days.
⠀
Here’s the good news ✅: You may not go from 30% + body fat to lean ‘n’ mean in 90 days, but you can make some awesome progress towards it!
⠀
Just be smart about it…
⠀
If you find a 90-day challenge that forces your to eliminate certain foods or do strenuously 2+ hour workouts 7 days per week….
⠀
You’ll just be setting yourself up for struggle 90 days from now. Hell, you might just quit 30-40 days in...
⠀
There’s nothing wrong with pushing yourself and being motivated by physical results...
⠀
Just don’t let that motivation blind you from what really matters — which is making this whole health & fitness thingy an enjoyable lifestyle
